Organza and Tulle Fabric for TTD

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

I have FINALLY found a dress for my April 30, 2012 wedding, that has a skirt made of either Organza or Tulle (can't remember off the top of my head). I am now starting to think about our Trash the Dress shoot, and wondering if anyone knows whether the fabric will be okay in the water, and if it will regain its shape afterwards? I would love to hear from anyone who has any information/advice! Buying a separate TTD dress is always an option, I'm just trying to keep costs down a bit so if we can trash my original dress that would be ideal. Thank you so much in advance :)

If you're really concerned about it being ok, I would just pop in to a drycleaner and ask them. I made the mistake of asking the staff at the bridal salon how the fabric would do in water, and they all looked at me horrified that I would even consider doing that. It was pretty funny. Keep in mind though, if you're trying to keep costs down, that drycleaning can be upwards of $300-400 for a wedding dress, depending on the dress. If you plan to sell your dress after the wedding, that's a huge cost you'll have to incur.

I think you can use just about anything for a TTD.  I think that the tulle or organza would look great in the water.  As to it regaining its shape afterwords, its really hard to say.  If you don't plan on using your dress again or selling it I guess it wouldn't matter.  If you are really worried you could always purchase a seperate dress, which can usually be purchased for pretty cheap.

Thanks ladies. I guess my worry is the fact that it's a pickup skirt, so I'm not sure if it will just flatten out after going in the water. Here's a link to the dress: http://www.venusbridal.com/bridals/venus/VE8044

I have heard from 2 drycleaners that they could get it cleaned (my future MIL would like me to wear it at our AHR) and it would be perfect, but the actual dress designer said that there's a pretty good chance it could be ruined.

If I was to purchase a separate dress for the TTD, I would want it to look similar to mine, and I've been very unsuccessful in finding anything. I'm just really hoping I can use my original dress and it won't get totally ruined. Too much to ask maybe, considering the dress I chose?

You could ask one of the replica dress makes to make your dress.  Each one would have a different price, and it would be somethign that you would notice with the fabrics, but since it is for pictures alone, I don't how how much it would matter.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
