Welcome mishelae -

First of all I want to direct you to the Dreams Cancun thread where we discuss all things related to the resort:

http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/thread/2782/dreams-cancun-questions-for-those-married-here

For DIY projects, as that is not resort specific, there will be individual threads on all of the different projects you can do.  If you know what you want to do, then you can search for that topic.  However, if you need ideas of what is possible, then you will want to check out past brides' planning threads.  To find them, go under the FORUMS tab at the top of the page and follow the path below.  In these threads brides show everything they bought/made/planned to make their trip/wedding day special.

BDW General â€º Share your Wedding & Engagement Stories! â€º Wedding Planning Journal

Best of luck and I hope to see you on the Dreams Cancun thread (I will be getting married there on November 5, 2011 and I have selected the Dreams Ultimate package).

Thanks for your comments on my engagement pictures.  My fiance and I are not photogenic people, so when we saw our engagement pictures we knew we wanted to bring this guy with us to Cancun.  I feel like photography is the single most important aspect of a wedding, because 20 years down the road that is what you are going to have to remember the day by.

I have gotten so much out of the planning threads and wedding reviews from this thread, that you can be sure I will be putting up very detailed ones when it is my turn.  In fact, I have been composing my planning thread in Word as I go along so it isn't as much effort right before the wedding.

The main thing about planning your wedding at most any of the resorts, and it is true for Dreams, is that the coordinators have a lot of brides to work with.  So don't expect a quick response from them until your wedding is just a few months out.  The frustration you feel now will turn to appreciation when they focus on you and your wedding when it is your turn.  Also, I know that Dreams recently changed their photographer, but most (if not all) of the brides on this forum reserved their wedding long enough ago that they are still contracted to get the old photographer (Juan Navarro).  So you might want to check out the work of the new photographer and see if the quality and style are what you want for your wedding.

Hi Misheale!

I am getting married at Dreams Cancun July 2012..hopefully you will be the resident expert by then : )  This is a great site for finding information on DIY projects, etc. I have already designed my invites ready to go out in August.  If you are not working with a TA, I advise you to get one.  So far that is the only advice I have.

Good Luck!

Natasha

Hi Mishelae!

I to have just given my deposit to reserve our wedding (Feb.19) with Dreams Resort and Spa Cancun :) I hope you still frequant this site and review and can give me some advice on what to expect! I am trying to personalize the ceremony as best as we can, we have decided to create a few decor items before the wedding that will also be used for the reception. I am wondering what locations you used for the ceremony and the reception, how you found the DJ to be and any tips you can pass along to a new bride :)

Thanks!

Hey Michelae,

Was so glad to hear that we are both getting married around the same time at Dreams Cancun. My date is June 18th 2012 and I am extremely nervous about getting my hair done the way I would like. Did you book your hair appointment on the resort? Please let me know. One advice that I would give you for DIY is to bring most of your decorations with you. My agent told us that she's booked lot's of destination weddings and she really encourages the couple to pack a suit case of decor.  We took the Ultimate Dreams package but we have over 30 guests attending and we would need lots of extras. Our reception will be by the pool/garden so we decided to bring white christmas lights to put on the trees. We will also be bringing our own chair decor (ribbon on chairs). Since the DJ is rediculously expensive we are considering to bring our satelite radio and  take the DJ for 2 hours. Will you be taking the photo package? Let me know...

Hey Mishelae!

I just got married at Dreams Cancun March 3, 2012 ! Everything was amazing! You have made an excellent choice. Everything was very well organized and planned when we arrived. The views are breath taking! All of our guest had had a great time and we made memories to last us a life time. I went with the dreams of love package. I had about 20 guest and it was perfect. I made a couple of upgrades in the package for decor and flowers but at the end of the day the scenary is so beautiful on its own I probably could have done without the extras. The flowers were perfect! My hair was what I wanted! I used the resort beutician and she did an awesome job! It does help to have some one that can speak spanish at the salon though. I felt like they did not understand me when I spoke english but she did an amazing job! I took extensions which I think confused her some but the result was still amazing! She did my makeup too which I was nervous about but she did a good job with my make up as well. I got married at 4 and I made my appt with the salon at 1. I feel like I should have allowed a little more time because it took almost 2 hours to get my hair and make up done. My pictures were absolutly breath taking! Adventure Photos took then they are on the resort and part of the packages. Everyone that has seen my pictures have asked me who my photographer was and when I tell them it was the photographer at Dreams they cant believe it! There is no need to take your own photographer they do an excellent job! Let me know if you have any questions.I know a destination wedding can be a leap of faith but trust me you will get your dream wedding!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
