our pre trip brochure states Sand between your toes Elegance 'the wedding is at 4pm on the beach. Be comfortable! Leave your suit and tie at home, but please no shorts. By the way, be barefoot! The bride will be! Sandals and heels will be great for dining and dancing as we will be under the stars, but on firm ground.

It's awesome to see this thread! LOL!

Anad1027, my own father would do the Costco shorts thing....instead he has said to me that he is buying a suit for HIS wedding and he will wear it to mine after.....THAT is a whoooolllleeee other story! LOL! I felt very bridezilla-ish for a moment when I was talking about it with my FI saying "how do I nicely tell people to leave their stupid shorts at home!" LOL!  I agree with Torilynnsmith, I felt the same way, this is our one and only wedding, I am wearing a beautiful expensive wedding dress, he is wearing a suit, don't show up in your hawaiian shirt!

I am happy to see this thread and the way you are all putting the wording, Beach Elegance, Resort Chic, etc, I will for sure be borrowing it!

i have to be honest - i have no idea what dress shorts are?! i dont think we have that term in england?

we're going for xcaret eco park now, so we're expecting people to be a little bit more formal than if the wedding were on the beach but im thinking my dress code will probably be light/linen trousers and a shirt. no tie necessary. but fiance says that most of his friends wont have light coloured trousers so they may well just come in dark suits anyway.

and since all of my guests are pretty much from monterrey...where weddings are uberformal massive events. so i dont think i have to worry about people turning up in shorts. although ill put it just in case!

women...knee length dresses. full length if they want and have one (its pretty standard to own super formal ones ehre)

shoes i dont mind, flip flops are fine if thats what they want!

          smart-casual is fine...super casual isnt!

I think this is information that you should be putting on your wedding website, not your invites. That way, you can be as blunt as you need to be.

I have been thinking about this issue.  My sister had a destination wedding and didn't mention a dress code thinking guests would dress appropriately.  Well needless to say she had a couple guests that looked like they could go to the beach right after the ceremony.  Not sure where exactly I will mention a dress code but I def. think it needs to be done.

              46 booked and counting!
