Bridal Shower, To have or to let lapse???

Recommended Posts

I'm actually having 2. Both my Mom and FMIL want to throw showers. Most of the people I invited to the wedding aren't coming and we aren't having an AHR. A lot of people thought this would be a nice way to celebrate.

I am much the same! I could care less either way if i have one.. So i figure that whatever happens, happens! if someone wants to have one for me, then i will be okay with it.. if no one plans one, then i am okay with that too! :) I do agree though with the other Brides on here.. You do only intend to get married once! so live it up and embrace some of the fun stuff that goes along with getting married! let people spoil you if they want to :)

good morning, ladies!

i'm so glad to see this thread...as i'm feeling the same way but so many people wanted to host a shower or buy bachelorette gifts that my honey and i have opted to have a bachelorette breakfast and a bachelor breakfast..on different days while we're in jamaica.  my sister and my daughters will 'host' my breakfast and my son will host the bachelor breakfast.  mine will be on friday (the day after most of our guests are due to arrive) and my honey's will be the morning of our wedding.  i figure this will give our female guests quality time with me and the male guests quality time with my honey plus, for those that want to impart words of wisdom or shower us with gifts..then they can...

female guests will be formally invited using the invite below and male guests will be personally invited to the bachelor breakfast.  the invite has a small note that gifts are welcome but not expected...that way if guests just want to come and hang out at breakfast with either of us..they can feel free to do so and not feel obligated to bring a gift...

At first I didn't want one either because I really do NOT want anyone to buy us gifts, especially if they are paying to come to our wedding!  But my mother is throwing me one anyway and most of the people she is inviting will be my extended family who will not make it to the DW.  So, I guess this way they get to be involved in the wedding even though they can't fly to Jamaica.  It is very sweet of them, and people tell me they would be offended if I didn't let them get me some gifts, but I feel a bit guilty accepting presents when I won't be providing them the opportunity to celebrate at the actual wedding.

My parents & maid of honor are throwing us a jack & jill wedding shower.. in my culture its pretty much a mini wedding, since we don't live back home anymore we're not doing an AHR so this is more for us to be with guests that aren't able to go to our DW and we have familiy traveling from Canada for this.

So, my family insisted on a shower. It was on the patio of a cute little restraunt near my house yesterday. I really did not want it. I didn't feel like I deserved any of it and i hate the games that are always played. BUT I am really glad we had one. It was really nice to be able to get together with everyone and simply get really excited for the wedding. I do think alot of ppl would have been dissapointed if we didn't have one. There were other reasons i liked it too. There were a few ppl i had in mind that i wanted to ask if they would make cookies for the reception. This was a great opportunity to ask them in person, rather than over the phone. Best of all, I finally announced that we are expecting some little feet! Everyone was soooo excited : )

I just finished all the thank you cards....

Congratulation meBonidie2be! I have already been offered two showers and a bachelorette. I guess they wouldn't offer if they didn't want to. I have already talked to everyone who has indicated that they are coming to the wedding and told them not to bring gifts to any showers! The fact that they are coming to Jamaica is more than enough! I'm getting so excited!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
