Canadian Birth Certificate

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know for sure if Canadians have to get the long form of our birth certificate to get maried in Jamaica? I've read a few places that they have to have your parents information which is only included on the long form.

Thanks!

Hi Jamie

To answer your question regarding the marriage requirments in Jamaica, you do indeed need the long form of your birth certificate. In order to get married in Jamaica you must provide proof of citizenship in the form of a certified copy of your birth certificate which includes your father's name. Unfortunately the wallet sized birth certificates most people carry around don't have their father's names on them at all. On a positive note, when getting married in Jamaica you DO NOT need to get a blood test as you would if you were marrying in Mexico or many other parts of the Caribbean. So while it may be a little more of a hassle to get your long form birth certificate just remember the other hassles you have avoided by choosing the location you did! :)

Hope this helps, goodluck with everything.

My hubby and I were married in Jamaica this past april and DID NOT need a long form of our birth certificates (I've never heard of that actually) all we needed were the notarized copies of our wallet sized birth certificates along with notarized copies of our passports.  All that extra work is not needed!!  We've since recieved our official marriage certificate and it's all legal here! :)

According to our resort we either needed to get our passports notarized by a notary public or have certified bith certificate (the long form).  I think its a bit different each place so check with the resort you are marrying at.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
