Hawaii Wedding.....I hope.

Here I Go Again

Recommended Posts

Hiya everyone!

I am so glad my friend recommended this forum to help me plan my destination wedding. There is so much information and it's great to hear many successes. It's a scary thing placing one of the biggest days ever in the hands of a stranger.

I have been mainly browsing the forums here and didn't plan on posting really, but I have stumbled upon a problem and could really use guidance.

Here's the thing, I know that my fiancé's family can afford to attend our DW in Hawaii, but my sister's cannot. They are East Coaster's and flight costs are insane. Plus, they are both on a very tight budget. I am giving them about a years notice so they can prepare to save. I just feel bad because I know they could use that saved money for bills that they are already struggling with. Do I offer to pay half of the flight costs also since I am already offering to pay for 3 night hotel accommodations or do I just get over the fact that my side of the family will not be able to attend? Should I change destinations? I really want a tropical beach wedding. I chose Hawaii for the beauty, beaches, national parks, volcanoes, etc. I want to be able to do things and go site seeing during my honeymoon phase of the WD, you know? Are there other places that may not cost as much to fly to that can be just as beautiful as Hawaii? Seriously needing help/ suggestions.

Thanks in advance.

P.S.

This is my second wedding and they had paid for travel and lodging in the past, but it wasn't for a WD. I just lived far from them.

Welcome!!

When we started planning our destination wedding we ran into the same thing.  My family could afford to attend by my FI family could not afford to come to Hawaii because of the cost. And also they live on the east coast compared to us living in the west, their price was much more.  We finally had to decide to change locations because it was really important for my FI to have his family there.  He said he would regret not having them there to share in our special day.  We also wanted to go someplace like Hawaii for the site seeing and abundance of things to do.  We ended up choosing to rather get married in Jamaica as it would be cheaper for his family to come and we still get to get married in an amazing place.  We have decided on our one year anniversary we will go to Hawaii just the two of us and do the things we wanted to do.  I guess it really comes down to the fact that are you going to be okay not having your sisters there?  If not, then I think you need to consider changing locations if it really is important they be there.  Good luck, let us know what you have decided!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
