Survey, what activities or things did you treat your guests to?

Anyone know the best way to get your guests to the tulum ruins? I know there are vans that are like taxis that we could all ride in. I've heard they are $2 per person. Are they typically nice enough for an 30-60 minute ride? Air conditioning?

 

Are there other options? Chartering a van? I'd prefer to not rent a car. I don't like the idea of dealing with the risk of a collision in another country. We rented a car in paris do drive out of the city & it was so scary to imagine what we'd have to deal with if we damaged the car.

 

How much does it cost to get into Tulum? Also, would it be too hard for an 80 year old grandma to explore the ruins? How much walking is it?

 

Last question- are there public restrooms at the ruins?

Maybe this would be a good option for taking guests to the ruins. It's a van with a private driver for $35 per hour. You can have up to 12 people.

 

How long does it take to get from PDC to Tulum? We are in Puerto Aventuras which is south of PDC. How long is a good amount of time to spend in tulum? Any stops we should make on the way there or back?

We used a service out of playa del carmen to charter a trip to Coba Ruins, very highly recommended by us vs. Tulum. My 90 year old grandmother read about the ruins in National Geograpic and there are bicycle taxi's that can cart older folks or anyone who wants the tour in luxury... your friends and fam can rent bikes for 20 pesos.. LOADS of fun!

My 90 year old grandmother red about the ruins in National Geograpic and there are bicycle taxi's that can cart older folks or anyone who wants the tour in luxury... your friends and fam can rent bikes for 20 pesos.. Thanks so much for the information, Matt. A bicycle tour sounds great for grandma!!! I can't wait to tell her tonight.

I'll have to check out coba. Did your grandma go on the trip? Was she able to go to a cenote? I'd love to go to a cenote as a group & possibly ride a zipline through the jungle. But, everything we plan has to be grandma friendly. She is 80 and uses a walker or cane. Hopefully she is stronger by June (the trip has inspired her to work on her physical therapy) but we can't count on that.

I can't wait to be in Mexico with my family!!!!

Yes, grandma was able to tour the ENTIRE 100+ acres of the Coba grounds, all on a bicycle taxi. When I say bicycle taxi, imagine a driver and a front that is made with 2 wheels and a soft cushion, perfect for grandmas. We even brought a pillow for her tush and it was the best!

 

To hear her say "i read about this pyarmid in national geographic, i never imagined in my lifetime that I could actually see it, wow, its really amazing".... wow, I just broke down.

 

The fun thing is that you can get a guide to tell you about it, and he talks for 10 minutes then you rent bikes with your friends, SO MUCH FUN, and go for the tour. The grounds will take you 1.5 hrs to go through, even on a bike. The Coba ruins are the largest in the Yucatan. You can even climb them, another awesome experience.

 

Tulum is nice, its on the ocean.... but I was BLOWN away by Coba.

 

She did go to a cenote, you may want to try Cenote Carwash (on way back from Coba) as i think it is flat enough for her. We went to Grand Cenote with friends and family, just to chill and there was a covered pavilion where she ended up sitting. After that, she went home in her car with her daughter while the others went to the beach!

 

With this day tour, you can get a lot in, grandma friendly.

Thanks for all the information. I've emailed Jorge about planning the trip. He said it's only an hour from Puerto Aventuras to Coba. I thought it would take a lot longer. I didn't want travel time to get much over an hour.

I think we'll plan a shorter trip. I don't think all of our guests could last the whole day.

Do you recommend eating lunch somewhere near Coba? Or should we go to Tulum or Akumal? I'm just trying to figure out what all we have time for. I don't want to go to lunch much later than 11:30. Grandma eats early.

Thanks for the tips. My grandma's top thing on her list was to see the jungle. I'm excited to find a way to show her the jungle & still plan a trip that everyone else will enjoy.

wow thanks for the info matt. now was the whole trip with everyone 116 or perperson? i have a dad that uses a cane and i was worried how he would handle tulum. this is great!!! THANK YOU

The price is for everyone, not per person. Isn't that great? They also have drinks & snacks for you. There would still be the price of admission which is something like 350 pesos (~$3.50).

I've read that there are shuttles at tulum that will drive you from the parking lot to the ruins. Unfortunately, I don't think there are the bike taxis at Tulum.
