    I wish I was Italian! All my Italian girlfriends ONLY get money, I guess it is a cultural thing! One bought her house with her wedding money because they got enough for a great downpayment!  Dont think I want the 400 person wedding thought so I guess it's a trade off!!!

      We just figured this out!  We're registering on ourwishingwell.com so people may contribute money toward fun activities for our honeymoon (i.e. snorkeling, $48.50).  But at the same time, we're putting on invites "no gifts expected" so no one feels pressured to give us money.  But truth be told, that is just because we're moving overseas soon so we really don't need anything!

        BEACHBUM:::::::::^)

        This is what we are doing....we have made a wedding website witch has "additional information on the couple" in which case this is where we stated (that if gifts were to be given , that the couple is registered in just such a case lol so below you will see the stores in which Leigh dragged Mike to kicking and screaming all the way)....

        I figured if it was a little more light hearted, they wouldn't feel pressured to do anything...but this way they had the info if needed...plus who wants a tea set?!!!! this way if gifts are given at least you know you want them, hope this helped

          Great idea canadiangirl! And you're right... some people are going to give something regardless of how many times you say no! lol, so better to get something you want :)

                  My side does cash gifts but my FI's family does not. I really didn't want to register because there is nothing we want (we have no space and planning to move in a year). I ended up registering at Bed Bath Beyond and only added a few items to hint at the fact that we are not interested in "stuff"... Not sure if people will get the hint but we will see soon enough. I was hoping word of mouth from inlaws would help but they didn't feel comfortable with doing that. Oh well, a gift is a gift.

                    One of my friends joked that we should tell people we're registered at Wells Fargo. But seriously, we did not do a registry even though people said we really should. I know certain people want to give an actual gift as opposed to cash/money but I couldn't think of anything we needed or wanted that wasn't a major purchase. When people ask I politely answer "we didn't register because we just combined 2 households and don't need anything. But if you like to give us a gift then something for the honeymoon would be great (hotel or restaurant gift card or send a bottle of wine to our room, etc)." I know we're still going to get some random gifts but every one of my friends has too and they all registered.

                      I think the best way to let folks know you want $$$ is to have your closest friends and family spread the word...or set up the "honeymoon fund" using an online application.  I think a good rule is to NEVER, NEVER put it anywhere in print, or anything registry-related in print anywhere but the actual wedding website.  It has just always rubbed me the wrong way to see it on STD or invites.
