To sheath, or not to sheath... THAT is the question!!!

Recommended Posts

Hi ladies!

Wow, I haven't been here in FOREVER!  We realized last fall that we could no longer have our dream destination wedding *tear* so we moved the date from February 2012 to September 2011 and madness ensued!  I kinda felt out of place here with having a tiny local wedding, so I stopped checking in :(  Bad bride...

But when I came across this dilemma, I knew exactly who could help me :)  You ladies have always been honest and helpful, and now I need opinions!

I am wearing a Mori Lee Julietta gown, style 3052:

I love the gown, I'm actually getting the embroidery re-done in a fuschia pink.   But I'm iffy on not having sleeves.  I'm self-conscious over my upper arms and would like to have some sort of a bolero or shrug to cover them.  But with such beautiful embroidery on the gown, I feel like I'm doing the gown a disservice by covering it up.  I'm also wearing a rocking set of HUGE black pearls with a big fuschia flower on the side and don't want to cover those up either.  What should I do?

Is this you in the wedding gown? If that's you, you look absolutely gorgeous! Why do you want to cover up your arms...honestly, you look very fit and tone to me. I think the fuschia embroidery will give your dress such a nice pop and will look great with your skin tone. Sorry that your destination wedding didn't happen, but congrats on your upcoming wedding!

I love this dress the way it is - in my opinion, don't cover it up! It's beautiful embroidery and I'm sure you look STUNNING in it (not sure if that's you or not in the pic). My verdict: rock it the way it is & meant to be worn :)

I WISH that was me!  lol First, I am as white as Sheamus (this guy):

And second, I have bigger arms than I would like, much bigger than hers :(  They are not huge by any means, but from the elbow up they are bigger than I would have liked and they make me self-conscious.  I know I will be self-conscious the entire day wondering how big my arms look and I will hate any pictures that show them.

I was thinking about this jacket from Etsy:

It would allow all of the detail to still show through and would cover the part of my arms that I hate most.  I chose black because I'm already white enough lol  I'm as white as a jar of mayo and the dress will wash me out enough as it is, so that's also the reasoning behind the pink embroidery.  I wish I could tan but my skin only burns in the sun and goes right back to pasty white!  It's a curse... And FI is native so he has that beautiful "I just came back from vacationing in Florida" look all year round, even in the middle of winter!  If he wasn't so cute I'd hate him lol  He'll be wearing a black suit, so I'm worried I'll look even MORE white next to him if I don't add something.

I think this from etsy would work.  I think the only thing you could do is try it on with your dress to make sure it doesn't cover up all the beautiful details!

I think the dress would look beautiful without the jacket but most important is how you feel. Last thing you want on your wedding day is to be self conscious. You can alway take the jacket off and show off the detail but I think you will feel happier having the jacket just in case.

I think I may go without the jacket.  I would love to buy the jacket and try both looks to see which looks better, but it's $50 (plus taxes through customs) for the jacket, and I'd have to ship it back if I didn't like it :(  If I could pick it up locally and return it to the store I would try it, but not to have to ship it back.  And it's not something I would ever wear again...

I hate decisions lol I'm especially bad at decisions lately because I got hit with a whopper on Friday... We booked our ceremony/reception location back in November and got a call on Friday that the hotel was undergoing renovations and they had to cancel our wedding.  I LOST it!  Had a total breakdown/bridezilla moment.  Less than four months before our wedding, everything based on having our wedding in THAT room at THAT hotel, and they bailed. I was so mad!  But thankfully someone was looking over me and we found a new location yesterday :)  I have to go and do a site visit tomorrow and we're getting a great deal.  It's actually a nicer place too :)  Thank GOD we're getting married on a Monday!!  If it was a Friday or Saturday I'd be screwed and would be throwing a half-assed wedding in my backyard lol

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
