Iberostar Rose Hall SUITES - Jamaica 2012

Recommended Posts

Hi MrsG,

I decided to go with Tai Flora.  I couldn't find anyone who provided ONLY the flowers.  I tried to work with Godfrey Guy, but he seemed a little crazy and very persistent.  Plus his quotes were all over the place and we never seemed to be on the same page.  I kept sending him pictures of what I wanted and he would send me alternate pictures of completely different centerpieces.  He was willing to provide only the flowers, but wasn't reducing his rates any (so I would have been paying for the full centerpiece and arrangement instead of a flower only price).  Plus he's received some bad reviews from a few other brides.

I'm honestly still working on the flowers!  But it's my fault.  I neglected it and now it's a last minute scramble.  But Tai Flora is willing to work with my budget and propose ideas (but they are very slow to respond, which is why I don't have anything confirmed yet).  The bouquet I initially wanted was going to be an extra $85 using all cymbidium orchids.  But then I discovered that debrobrium orchids are one of the choices for the free bouquet.  So I'm using dendrobriums (free).  And then the centerpieces will be 3 small floral centerpieces of orchids at each table ($15 each) and 2 floating candles with submerged orchids at each table ($30).  I'm not doing a huppa (just the arch that comes with the package).  I'm still confirming all the prices.  And I'm bring my own votive candles and paper lanterns.

Hi Ladies..

Just  wanted to put a big warning out there on Godfrey Guy...........

I was married at the Suites on March 30, 2012.  I had hired Godfrey for my flowers.  A few months before the wedding I started getting emails saying I had not decided on what I wanted.  I sent the emails showing what I had asked for etc.  Two weeks before the wedding I got harassed with phone calls and emails saying he needed more money.

My husband tried to speak to him as did Nicole - but we ended up sending more money as we were worried about the potential of not having flowers.  Arrangements were made to meet on the three days prior to the wedding to review what we wanted and confirm flower choices.  He never showed up. In all the back an forth around the extra money he mad some very disparaging remarks about the "Iberostar Brides" and working with them.  He also indicated we were to pay Nicole and he would pick up the money the day after the wedding when he picked up the vases etc.

When the bouquets and Boutonnière were sent to the room I was visibly upset.  My bouquet was wilted and brown and the stems were way too long.  The Boutonnière were all wilted and he sent an extra bridesmaids bouquet.  My Matron of honor went down and met with him explaining the changes that needed to happen.  He was rude and condescending refusing to admit anything was wrong.  After the changes were made the harassing phone calls started.  He called constantly demanding his money now and threatening to take down all the flowers. These calls included fowl language and demeaning comments. In addition his final payment and what I had from the quote and down payment were about 150 off. He was demanding more money. Myself, Nicole, My matron of honor, my photographer and the makeup artist all tried to intervene to no avail.  It took Nicole double checking what he had brought, me going through all my emails and calculating costs vs payments vs material provided, and my friend who is 6'3 going down with the computer documentation and a payment to end the matter.

So proceed with caution ladies.

The place is great, but the only problems are that the wedding coordinators are very hard to reach, and at my wedding the DJ kinda screwed up by not playing the songs we wanted during certain dances. It is a laid back attitude there which is great, but at the same time can be frustrating. For example, we were having some entry music and certain songs played for the bride dad dance and groom mom dance, but couldn't reach the DJ untill after we were already seated. They show up on their time. So if you are a bridezilla, you are gonna be upset. But if you are a decent person, then you'll have a great time. The food is amazing, especially the steak house at the Grand and the Hibatchi at the Beaches. If you are at the Suites or Grand, u can walk over to the Beaches, but people staying at the Suites and Beaches are not allowed to go into the Grand. That makes getting reservations tough, first thing you do is set reservations for Dinner for each night, you can always cancel, but u can't get same night reservations, usually u need 2 nights advance and the restaurants arn't open each night. The bartenders are great, especially in the pool, the entertainers are great, they will remember you too, even if it's a few years later, by far the best service I've ever gotten anywhere from arrival to departure, Jamaicans are just awesome people. I was named a Jamerican because I am now part Jamaican since I got married there, if I wasn't from Jamaica mon, why would I be wearing this hat? Lord have Mercy!

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only nerve-racked bride, tho my wedding will be on November 26, 2012 I can't help being a little antsy embarrest.gif

I have been emailing the coordinators with questions and getting very little from them unless I call which is still a little difficult, I'm sure it is only because the wedding is far away . . .

Has anyone encountered any problems with extending the time for their reception?

We have sent out our STD & now are looking for a photographer, florist & DJ.

Reading everyones posts has been very helpful.

Thank you everyone for sharing!

Hi Liz!

I've just come across this Suites 2012 thread and noticed you're getting married one week before me and that we're both from Toronto, so I wanted to say hi!

How's the planning going? :)

Hi,

My wedding will be July 1, 2012. I chose Iberostar because it had the best reviews. I do not love their wedding package but I am going to use a few outside vendors. I found the vendor through this site which have been very helpful. The florist the hotel recommends is very expensive and they are hard to reach. I have also heard the photographers they use are not great either and are also expensive.

I have decided to use a floral service provider which a few brides have used at Iberostar. His name is Godfrey Guy. His email is [email protected]. His prices are amazing. Note the hotel does not use natural flowers for the ceremony huppa and no center pieces are included in your reception dinner only the main table. if you use him tell him Charene Stewart referred you ( wedding date July 1, 2012) The only thing is he will require a deposit by western union which I just sent yesterday and the balance will be due 5 days before the wedding. I am using him for my huppa, ceremony arrangements, my bouquet ( I will use the one that comes with the package for my brides maid as I hear it is small), corsages for the moms and the buttonholes for the dads) and my table center pieces. All you have to do is send him pictures of what you would like and he will advise. He would be an outside vendor but he picks up the vendor fee. He will call you all the time but I rather someone stay in contact vs not hear from them and they are in another island.

I am also working with an outside vendor photographer Marcia Roberts. She seems to be really good and I also got her from one of the brides on this site. Again she will also pay the vendor fee. Just really review her contracts and make sure it states exactly what you agreed on. I am finalizing my contract with her now.

My guest will be staying at Iberostar Suites and this is where the wedding will be. Myself and the Groom will be staying at the Grand. It is a little more $$ but I love the fact you have a butler and the grounds are more plush and grand!

I plan on bringing my own chair tie backs as the hotel does not have my colors, my favors, and votive candles for the table for the reception.

We are expecting about 80 guest. I am working on my guest welcome gift bags now. I will include hang over kits, sunscreen, personalized playing cards, and advise cards for them to drop in the wedding box and a couple of other things I am deciding on.

**Note Nicole and Tiffany the wedding coordinators are very hard to reach!! You have to call them. They take forever to reply back to emails. Maybe it is beacuse my wedding is next year? But it really shouldn't matter.

Well congrats 2012 brides!! Keep me posted and I will do the same!

Charene and Kevin July 1, 2012 Iberostar Suites Montego Bay, Jamaica!

Hi, did you receive a price list for the decorations he provides?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
