Thanks ladies, all good advice, it looks like I'm going to have to go get measured before I order anything.

Keep in mind that my dress wasn't loose around my thighs. SO, IMO I would first get measured by your local salon, then once you know your measurements you can usually go to that designers website and figure out what size of a dress to order, If you are inbetween sized (as I was) then go bigger and have it taken in.
Tammy, just looking around online and saw a pic of you and your dress :). Is it hard for you to sell it?

You're so silly Jen! I'll tell you what I like from there...
Jamaican shrimp I think it is... rice, beans, tasty shrimp and plantains (which are one of my favourite things in the world to eat!) If I must get dessert, it's the apple dumpling thing..

An 8 would just be swimming on my chest area I think.

      UGH I'm so confused!
I don't know if you have the dress picked out, but I tried on something I think like you are decribing... oh, it was so beautiful.
It was new from Augusta Jones, let me see if I can find it...

Nope, not at all.. I'm giving it until Christmas and if it's not sold I'll just keep it or try Ebay. IMO the odds of having a girl, her wanting to wear my dress, and her being the same size as mine are like the same chances as winning the lotto. So If I can sell it great, if not I'll probably store it and if I ever have a baby I will have something special made for him/her with my dress. I have the pictures of my dress for memories, I don't need the dress for that.

Do you plan on keeping your dress? (OH I should mention that you want a wedding dress exactly like my best friend discribed me of what she's looking for right now, she is getting married next summer)

Ack! I cannot find it, it was at an Augusta Jones trunk show, so it's new, not on their website.

I would but I'm doing the whole trash the dress thing so even though it might not get trashed I wouldnt feel good about selling a dress to some girl that I went swimming in.

I didn't try on different manufacturer's wedding dresses so I don't really know the american sizing. However, I am smaller than you (not even 5'1" on a good day unless I'm wearing my stilettos) and I've always ordered the smallest size bridesmaid's dress (2 or 0), and then had to alter them down several (more than 2) sizes. Definitely get measured by a tailor (maybe not at the bridal store because there seems to be a conspiracy on alterations) and then compare your measurements to the manufacturer's chart as oposed to relying solely on the salesperson's opinion. I am normally a european 32 or 34 and my wedding gown is a 34 (which had to be taken in.) If the gown is not corsetted or does not have any boning to help support a strapless style, definitely go tight on the measurements and/or find a good (reasonably priced) tailor. Happy hunting!

Oops.. just saw your last post. Those are *very* pretty. Use your chest measurements to determine your size. Those style gowns are very forgiving on the hips.
