Do you know how the sun sets on the beach?

 

I am getting married on Daylight Savings and the sunsets at 5:45. I am freaking out that there will not be enough sun for my pictures since apparently the beach doesn’t get very much sun in the evening (due to the sun setting behind the hotel).

 

Maye told me to have my wedding at 5:30 at first. But, when I brought it to her attention that the sun was setting 15 minutes later, she told me to have it at 4:30. I’m thinking 3:30 to be safe. She is waaaaaay to relaxed about the situtation. God-I am soooo Bridezilla about this – BUT the pictures are important.

 

Anyway, what has you experience been with the CSH beach, pictures and the sunset?

I don't have any advice on when the sun sets over there, but I agree that you should try to get the ceremony in before the sunset for your pictures. Then once your pics are done, your guests can enjoy watching the sun set with dinner and dancing.

Earlier is better, unless you pick TOO early and it's A) super hot and super bright

 

The sun sets earlier than you'd think because it sets behind the hotel, which is mountainous. So the suns dips behind the mountains before actual "sunset" time. It casts long shadows that you might have to work around creatively. Once the sun is behind the mountains but before it's dark out is a great window for soft light. In your case, I think 5:30 is way too late.

 

We did it at 4:30 (after daylight savings changed) and I wish we did it about 15-30 mins earlier.

Yep - go earlier. I have a series of pics that my photog took about a week before our ceremony that convinced me to switch from 5 to 4. I'll email them to you.

Did you do your beach pics before or after the ceremony? Both you and Christa had great light. I'm just wondering if I shoudl schedule my coupls shoot before the ceremony.

 

As of now...I' even considering 3:30/3:45ish to start the ceremony. The problem is then I have to pay for another hour of open bar and go into the poorhoues (even further)!

Ooh, I was planning on starting the ceremony at 5:30. That sounds too late now. Can you send me those pics of the wedding that convinced you to go to 4:00 pm?

5:30 should be ok for you Ncainey.

 

My wedding was at 5. Any photographer will tell you that direct sunlight is way too harsh and creates bad shadows in photos. If you are concerned about the light, I would move up your ceremony time some. The best light, as I understand it is the 15 or so minutes before sunset aka "golden time"

 

The best thing for you to do is to ask your photographer, or any of the several photographers on the forum. We did photos before the ceremony, but in a shaded area. The ceremony was at 5, and we did photos afterward again until about 6:15 in areas that would normally be exposed to full sunlight. By about 6:45 the sun had totally set.

Tasha's right - you want to use that golden light for your best photos. Just make sure you have enough time for your photos to get them all in before dark. If you don't take some beforehand too?

 

You can make tentative decisions now, and when you get the Cabo the week of your wedding you can actually time the light one night and adjust your schedule accordingly.

Okay so, I've made a decision for 3:45. The extra 15 minutes is giving me peace of mind. I'm silly!
