Civil Weddings in Mexico - 3 business day rule

Recommended Posts

Hey ladies,

I plan on being married in Mexico on Wednesday, Feb 29th, 2012 @ Isla Mujeres Palace.

I've got a quick question for anyone who's already planned their travel.

I understand that for civil weddings in Mexico, you have to be there three business days before your wedding (Saturdays count). However, can the day of your wedding count as the third day? Or do you have to be there for three business day and technically get married on the fourth?

The reason I'm asking is that my travel agent told me that I'd be able to either fly out of Calgary on Feb 26th (Sunday) or out of Toronto on Feb 24th. If we have to get married on the "fourth" business day, I'll have to fly out of Toronto which is a pain because I live in Calgary.

I just wanted to see what some of you did for your travel planning, or what information you've gathered from your resorts. I have emailed the resort to ask them directly about my situation, but wanted to hear about what you guys have experienced/heard.

Thanks so much,

Paula

Hello! I am getting married at Secrets maroma Beach in playa del carmen on May 16th and leave this coming Monday-can't wait!! we are also having a civil ceremony.

have you spoken with the resort at all? Saturdays actually do not count as "business days", and neither does the day you arrive. Also-some resorts actually require FOUR business days versus THREE. I believe it depends on the town. So for me, We are arriving on a Monday (does not count as a business day) staying Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday (those are our 4 business days) and then getting married on that next Monday. So it sort of sucks because we are there for an entire week before we get married-but whatever! We are then staying through the following Saturday, the 21st. I am not sure if your wedding date can be on the fourth business day-but i am pretty sure it can't be.

so definitely discuss with the resort to make sure they have the available date and then go from there as far as travel arrangements. as far as my experience has led me to believe-you would actually have to arrive in mexico on 2/22/12 to have a wedding on 2/29/12.

good luck!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
