Wedding date - What is the best time of the year to book ???

Recommended Posts

Hi laides!

Need advice! I decided to visit Riu in Ocho Rios middle of March to help me feel comfortable with the desitination of choice for my special day. I feel in loooove with the resort and everything related. However, I found it was extremly windy and at times chilly. I was under the impression that Feb/Mar are the best times to travel to JA weather wise. Now I know it is definietly a hit and miss - but any feedback would be great! We are booking our day this weekend :o)

The weather is definitely hit or miss in the caribbeans. That's too bad that you had chilly and windy temperature while you were down but I would still say Feb/Mar/Apr or Nov would be good months to go. Dec/Jan can have great weather too but likely to have chilly temperatures on some days. The summer's are unbearably hot and then it's also hurricane season so I wouldn't recommend that. I've also been in May and still found it too hot to be comfortable outside unless it was in my bathing suit going in and out of the water. Maybe April would be a good choice for you? Good luck!

Thanks so much for your reponse! - funny enough my thoughts were to push it to April! I figured it would be a safe bet.

Originally February was top of my date choice, but again a little too close to January were its chilly.

Yikes! I leave in 6 days, didn't know that May was "unbearably hot"! I was under the impression that the temps year-round are fairly consistent? I will hope for not too hot!

Anyone know about September? My understanding is that the temp will be great but there is a greater chance of rain? Guests are a bit nervous about this as well as hurricane season but...I'm a positive thinker!

Besides, I'm from England and any day of the year has the chance of rain! :)

September is most definitely part of hurricane season.

I was there april 6-13 and the weather was incredible. high's of 30deg, lows of about 24deg (those temps in C)... windy some days, but it was welcomed as it helped make the heat feel more bearable. every day clouds seemed to roll in around 2pm but out of the 7 days we were there it spit rain for maybe 15 min.

Woops! Don't let my post scare you. And anyways, it's the summers that are unbearably hot and May is no where as bad but still too hot for my personal tastes. We had to shower sometimes 2-3 times a day in May because we'd get sticky and sweaty fast if we spent time outside during the day. But a lot of people enjoy the May weather. My brother won't go down to the carribbeans unless its a constant 30+ cause otherwise it's not a real vacation for him. I prefer a 26-29 temperature which you'll get in the late/winter early/spring, and even on the nice days in the Winter.

It is hurricane season. When I went to Cuba once in late August-september.. we were hit by 2 hurricanes in 2 weeks. The hurricanes only lasted a day though as they passed through, the rest of the time was perfect perfect weather :)

Any rain down there doesn't usually last very long. Hopefully if there is a hurricane in the forecast, it won't be passing by on your wedding day! Other than that it should be fine. I'm not sure what they do for weddings when hurricanes come but during the really bad ones, they usually make everyone stay inside the resort.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
