Soooooooooooo frustrated with prices!!! :(

Recommended Posts

I used Orbitz which guarantees a refund check for the difference if tickets go down in price.  Warning: don't book a package, they won't refund differences on packages.

I believe it depends on whether the company is American or Canadian because I know in Canada booking a package is the only way to go where in the states it can be better to book separate.  As well I know that with Canadian companies you do you get a refund on packages.

@ Astef I would maybe go with the small company as you can deal with her face to face if something was to go wrong where with sell off its all over the phone and no personal connection or I may just be a big advocate of using the small companies lol.  I went with a small company of only one lady doing all the work and I'm soo happy with her and feel like shes going the extra mile just to make sure I'm happy.

We ended up switching our resort to one that was more reasonably priced.... we are getting married at Ocean Blue and Sand now in Punta Cana.  We are going through apple vacations as a group.  Right now, prices are varying because people are leaving from various cities around the US, but all are under $1500 for 7 nights...  I am much happier with this price.  Also, everyone paid an additional $30 for Apple's price assurance so if the price drops at all, everyone will be given the lowest price.  I am no longer sooooooo frustrated :)

I had a problem with this as well.  We started planning in February, about 14 months ahead of time.  I wanted to hurry and get prices so more people will book and have enough time to save!  We fell in love with our resort from the moment we saw it online and read the reviews!  We will be going to Iberostar Rose Hall Suites for 5 nights then after our guests leave we will be going to Iberostar Grand Rose Hall for our Honeymoon for 4 additional nights!  Prices were pretty high but we did get 38 guests to book!  One of my bridesmaids went to her own travel agent and was given a price that was anywhere between $300-$400 cheaper per person!!  And her TA went through Apple for these prices and my TA went thru Travel Impressions.  Needless to say I told my TA about it and she offered to price match, but I felt like she wasn't going to come to me if she found the cheaper prices!  Our honeymoon stay was a complete seperate booking and we were paying from the beginning $1387 ea for 4 nights.  I had asked her if we would be getting cheaper prices and she told me NO!  So I went on Apple myself and found a price of $924 ea!!  Of course I confronted my TA and she offered to price match!  So now my fiance and I are saving over $1500, that we could sure use towards something else now!  And its a savings of over $12,000 for our entire group!  Just saying, if any of you are like me you could do some searching online and Im sure any TA will price match because they would rather lose out on some money then all of it :)

But you guys seem to book REALLY early... is there anyone that did wait/is waiting and what are your opinions?? I'm departing from Toronto, btw. THANKS!

I am a Feb 2012 bride as well and we booked in May.  I don't know how you US brides do it, I would be so stressed out knowing that My wedding was 7 months (to the day!!!!) away and I still wasn't booked to get there!!! Good luck to you!!!!!

I think you need to go with whoever provides the best service, we went with a small company because she provided the best rate and was quick to respond via email etc.  Let us know what you decide!!!!

I am having a really hard time making an important decision right now - I have been dealing with three different travel agents to get a good deal... now all three have matched each other at $1362/person. So now I don't know who to go with!!

One is SellOffVacations, one is Flight Centre and one has her own small company. They've all been helpful and are offering the same deal.

If I provide 10 deposits right away, Flight Center can hold 20 seats at the same rate, while SellOff and the other girl can hold 40, and that's much better for me to get my invitations out. So I think that drops Flight Center.

The girl with her own company has been really helpful but I worry about booking with a small company vs SellOff ... I feel like if anything goes wrong, there's more accountability with SellOff... what do you think???

I think it is a great choice.  I am sure anything under $1500 guests will be happy with but the price adjustment does come in handy!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
