Riu-Montego Bay

I hear ya ladies! I was super nervous at first because people (for some stupid reason) kept telling me about all of these bad reviews that they were seeing! Yikes! Buuuuttttt.....I have heard from at least 4 different, unrelated people who have been there within the past year, that they loved it! They said to ignore everything you hear because the resort was fantastic.

However, I have heard that the safes aren't "safe," so I'm not encouraging my guests to use them. In fact, I am going to steer them away from the safe. I've heard that keeping things hidden in your suitcase is a much better idea. If your guests have little suitcase padlocks, that might even be better. Even a zip-tie would do the job as long as you had clippers or something to cut it with each night.

The other thing I heard is that the food is...okay. People enjoyed themselves and enjoyed the food, but after a week, it got a little old. Most of my guests are staying for 3-4 days, so I don't think the food issue will be a problem.

Those were the only legit complaints though, and they still had a great time. My philosophy is, it's all about what you make of it. There will be a beach, an open bar, and a drink in my hand, and I will have a great time. Who's with me????cheers.gif

I'm with ya girl!  The only thing that really concerned me was the safe issue, and people getting things stolen.  We are all planning to bring our own little lock box or pad locks.  reviews I read say that they still use actual keys for the rooms instead of sliding a card.  someone posted that they were going back to their room and opened the door and noticed that the stuff in their room wasn't theirs, and that their key opened up someone elses room!  I would just die if anything got stolen!  If nonone steals my stuff, then I'm all good.  So count me in!

I just sent a request for October 6, 2012. Thank you for the tips. I didn't know they have safe issues. I have also read a lot of mixed reviews, but I think nothing is perfect and my guests will still have a great time. Fingers crossed! There are a bunch threads for RMB, which one gives you the most updated info?

Congrats MsIslandBride!! Thats soo exciting!  Although I have read mixed reviews as well I think you will have a good time if you dont let anything get to you.Nothing is perfect and if you have 5star taste maybe its not for you...But if your just an easy going person and dont sweat the small stuff than if will be great!!!

EmmaLou - My planning is going well...i cannot beleive we leave May 8th!! Its coming up so so quick!!  I have most things planned...we decided to rent out the disco...so that was pretty much the only thing i was still debating on.  I ammaking my own flowers out of silk Calla Lilies..I have allof the flowers I just have to make the bouquets..I have finished my OOT bags...I took pictures of everything so I will probably post those on here when I get a chance!  After my flowers are done I can start packing my luggages...We can also pack our clothes fairly early...Living in Vermont we will not need our summer clothes by the time we leave for Jamaica!! How is your planning coming??

I had my wedding at the Riu Montego Bay March 10th 2012. It was perfect! I couldn't have asked for anything better. The wedding coordinators have everything perfectly planned out. I am not a good planner, so they were really good for me. If you are a type A person they may be frustrating because they don't tell you all the details unless you ask, so just ask! We had a lot of compliments on how great our wedding was, many called it the best wedding they had ever been too! I wrote a review in the review section you can also read. Good luck!!!

We just got back from there, our wedding was March 10th, 2012. We had no problems with the safe, and nobody had anything stolen. We had a lot of people trying to tell us bad things about Jamaica too. Turns out most of our guests called it the "best vacation and best wedding ever" so I think they had a good time. Don't let other people rain on your parade. Our wedding could not have been better. The wedding planners do a great job, and the resort is a ton of fun. You will have a great time! No worries! Congrats.

Thanks so much for posting this. Every time I hear good news about the Riu, it makes my heart breathe a little sigh relief! I've heard from a lot of friends that the Riu was fantastic when they went. It's all in what you make of it! Can't freaking wait for June to get here.... cool.gif

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
