For those bringing a photographer from home...

...are you treating them like a guest? I know we will provide seats for them at dinner, but should we leave an OOT bag in their room? Should we invite them to our group activities (welcome dinner? rehearsal? excursions?) I'm interested to know how you are and are not including them.

I am planning on doing things for my photographers... I think I will do a modified OOT bag - something not so expensive as the others! And I will definitly invite them to the rehearsal dinner! Mine will be taking photos I'm sure but I also hope they stop and eat with us. The more you get to know them before the wedding the better your photos will be!

I know I will! It's best to work with someone that you know for sure will give you the final outcome at its best!

Somewhat out of the topic...is anyone here bringing their own hair and make up artist? I saw online a Rona Basa from Luxe Image that travels on location and does destination weddings. Her site is super chic and cute: www.luxe-image.com and her reviews are amazing! But, I wanted to see if anyone else had an opinion or other recs...

Thanks all!

I think that would be a nice gesture if they're staying through the wedding events.  It would be much like a vacation for them too and I'm sure they'd feel very special to be a part of the day as more than the photographer.  And then, they may possibly take pictures at your other events if you just invite them, which would be great for you.

I agree, I think they should be treated like a guest.  The more you include them prior to your wedding the better connection you will have with them when it comes to photographs on your wedding day.  Also, they are coming all this way, possibly alone, and it would be nice to include them in things.

Our photog is a guest first and photog second.  He's a friend so we want him to be a guest as well.  It's somewhat different than the normal situation but he's still being paid for his services so I have high expectations.  I hope we get our $$ worth.

  • 2 weeks later...

We're doing a combination of the two.  We're bringing a married photography couple down with us.  We never met them prior to our engagement session, so they are not friends by any means! Not that we don't enjoy their presence!

We're going to leave them a modified OOT bag and definitely invite them to the rehearsal dinner/welcome dinner (which they will be shooting as well).  We'll have seats and plates for them at the rehearsal and reception.  That being said, we're paying $70 per person for our guests to go on a catamaran excursion that includes snorkelling, Dunn's River Falls and a booze cruise on the way home.  We have decided that considering the price, we won't be inviting them to that.  Do you think that's rude of us? Perhaps it will serve as a day away from all of us for them to relax as well!

Sorry to piggyback on this thread but I had a question for you guys! I met with my photographers yesterday, and they were asking about somewhere at the resort to store all of their equipment.  I hadn't even thought of this!  Just wondering if your resorts have given you access to the hotel safes or other safe storing locations? We have safes in the rooms, but those wouldn't accommodate more than one camera! Just wondering if anyone else has had to troubleshoot this issue?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
