2012 Brides - Roll Call!

Recommended Posts

Congrats to all the new 2012 brides!! and so sorry to hear that so many people are having family complaining about their destination wedding! Luckily we haven't heard any complaints from close family and friends, just a few distant family members. I don't understand people who think its selfish, its your wedding and you should do what makes you happy!! I am worried about who will actually show up too!! but then i keep telling myself that those who attend will be the ones that mean the most to us so it'll work out in the end!

I understand the family thing, we have also had some negativity but we decided that the ones that want to be there will and the rest well that is their choice. But at least my parents are supportive and they will be there. I feel bad for my FI though because most likely there will be no one from his side. I am hoping that at least one of his friends comes, but not even sure about that. It's so disappointing to him, but he prepared himself for the NO's...I know that no matter what this day is our day and it will be about what we want! I am just thankful that my two best friends will be there and both will be my MOH's. The three of us have been friends for 33 years, and we have been through everything together. I would be more upset if one of them was unable to make it!!

Are plans are good. We have the resort booked and we will be staying there for 8 nights and then we will be goimg to another resort for 7 more nights. Same area...

Since we both have been married before me for over 17 years and had the traditional wedding, we both wanted a beach wedding. We love to travel and love the tropics..so it just made sense that we have a DW wedding..

Have you looked at or bought a dress yet? I have already done that..so the one I loved online and looked no further....No just taking a look to get an idea of what I want the two girls to wear...but have plenty of time for that....

Keep in touch, I love hearing about the planning......

We are currently going through battles with unhappy family members more than we are planning. Actually, I guess we are just dealing with the unhappy family members because there is no way we are changing our minds about where we are getting married! People so easily forget that this day is about me and my fiancee, not about anyone else. :)

How are your plans coming along? Did you always know you wanted a destination wedding? Are you planning a honeymoon after the wedding?

Hey brides!

Question- what are your mothers wearing to you wedding?? I decided to give my mom a little creative breathing room since it is a destination wedding. I told her a chiffon or light dress would be great (She was originally in love with a taffeta/tulle dress... wtf??) and a print would be nice too, since it's outside, mexico... blah blah.

I recently asked her to be the one to give me away (my father passed away 4 years ago) and my mom was a single parent most of my life anyway. She is floored with excitement and so was I.

Then, she sent me an email with the dress she chose. I panicked thinking it might be too similar of a sihouette to my dress and of course it's my day and I don't want anyone looking anywhere else but me and my fiancee! I asked wsome coworkers and they were all on my side. But I thought I'd get some more unbiased opinions... See for yourself:

My dress:

Very similar to mine, except mine is more sweetheart at the neckline.

Her dress:

I don't want to see like a bridezilla, but shouldn'e be what I say goes??? It's my day, not hers! help...

Hey BarbieBride! I can't download your attachments, but I totally agree with you. I may be bias, but I don't like it when mothers of the bride look like they are going to a prom. When my mom asked me what to wear and whether or not she needed to "match" I just told her to try and stay within the color family of the theme and be dressy yet comfortable given the beach setting. Our colors are turquoise, lime, and fuscia. She ended up going with a flowy patterned turqouise dress with hints of the fuscia, which I think will really represent her relevance without "stealing the show" and will still look great in pictures. Maybe just hint to your mom how warm it is going to be and that maybe she would be more comfortable in more beach friendly attire? Either way good luck and I think it is awesome that your mom will be giving you away. That will be such a special moment :)

The dress style definitely is similar, and I think you are right it is your day and you should be able to say what goes! Too be honest I think that dress would be more suitable for younger woman, and I say that because I am a mother of a child old enough to get married! I would want to wear something shorter, cooler and definitely more sophisticated for myself. But that is just my opinion....

Thank you both!

asiamarie- I agree. Though I partially blame myself because I told her it was pretty. Which it is, for somebody in their 20s or 30s you are totally right. She's so fickle though I am hoping she tries it on again in a couple months and decides she doesn't want it anymore.

stluciaboud- Thank you for agreeing. She was making me feel like I was crazy. She kept saying "yours is mermaid, mine is a-line!" ummm... if that's the only difference other than the color, there's a problem! I will just have to put my foot down.

The dress is definitely pretty. Did she purchase it already? If not maybe you can get her to try something else on while she is there trying that one on. Plus I think as the mother of the Bride she would want something more sleek! She would look gorgeous, sophistcated and elegant especially with the right accessories. I agree with stluciabound that she would look like she was going to the prom in this dress!! Good luck with everything.....The good thing for me is I am having my son and my grandson give me away!! At least that's what I am hoping for. My grandson isn't officially here yet but by the time I get married he will be 16 month old!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
