2012 Brides - Roll Call!

Recommended Posts

Hey Sojahseh81,

I think it depends on if your guests are travelling far distances in order to make your wedding.. as to how soon you should send them out. I sent out my invites really early only because people need to book flights and rooms at the all inclusive resort and it is all handled through my travel Agent as a group booking and price etc.. , for February, which is a high season. If they are needing to fly, but stay at a hotel in the city, then you may not need to book as much in advance.  I think it all depends on what the needs are... and If alot of people are having to travel from far distances :)

@luvmoo  I'm trying!! My fiance wants to kill me already and we're not even 6 months out yet LOL

@Samantha88k  someone who has already done the destination thing told me they bought a large cheap suit case at Big Lots - they filled it with all their OOT stuff and then once they got there, they pitched the suit case.... just an idea ;)

From one Texas girl to another, Welcome!!! You have done quite a bit! I sent mine out at the 11 month mark, just to give our guests the proper notification after we signed a group room agreement. Prior to doing that though, I read that some brides send them out 3-4 months in advance. It just all depends on your guests, you know them better than anyone else. As long as those who you know for sure will attend are in the information loop, that's all that matters. Good Luck!

So far, I've picked out my invitations, bridal party outfits, location (that was easy!), and food....I'm now kind of freaking out because most of you have already sent out invites and STD's, I was going to wait until Jan. but is that too short of a notice? What is the typical time frame for that?

Hello sojahseh81! Congratulations on your wedding planning! I'm actually in Dallas and was a destination wedding bride in Riviera Maya, Mexico last year. I design destination wedding jewelry and hair couture, so if there's anything you need in that department, please let me know! In response to your question about STD's...we sent ours out about 9 months prior. We had mostly friends and family scattered all around the US and knew we needed plenty of time to allow them to plan. We also put together a private Facebook Group page, so that way we could keep up the excitement for everyone when they decided to drag their tails :) We also talked to friends and family just to get the word out before we sent out STD's...so by the time they received them it wasn't out of the blue. I really think it's all personal preference. I don't think anyone has ever been upset by receiving the news early!

Good luck and let me know if you have any questions!

Sent Save The Dates and put down the deposit this week. Paradisus Palma Real - January 12th 2012!

Picking the location was overwhelming -- i'm hoping the rest will be a little less stressful. So glad to have found this site and all of you!

MsClarke724: That is a great idea too!! I'm thinking that with all the OOT goodies I may need to convince each of my parents and a couple bridesmaids to also carry an extra "cheap-o" bag!! I also thought that I could pack some OOT goodies in duffel bags and then squash them (once empty of course) in my actual suitcase for the trip back....also dependent on how heavy I pack it on the way down :)

Hi there,

It is really overwhelming! I thought I could wait as well, and when I started reading this site, it kind of lit a fire under my a$$! lol! I narrowed it down to a couple of resorts and contacted them about booking wedding dates and found I actually didn't have a whole lot of options.  The resort we went with is now booked solid, we get married in April of next year, thankfully I got a date I wanted :) We also wanted to give people loads of time to think about it and save up for it if they needed to, plus a lot of people plan out their holidays and since they need to take a week off, they needed more notice.  When we spoke with travel agents, we also found it really difficult to find a group rate/package that would allow people to pay in full closer to our wedding, one of the carriers only had 29 seats left on the plane out of Ottawa.  So all that being said, if you have picked out a resort and know when you want to get married, keep calling the resort to secure your date :) You can then at least tell people when it is for planning purposes.  Good luck!

Can anyone suggest a good time frame to send the STD and how far in advance we should send out the invitations? We are planning our DW in Mexico, and we have the resort picked out, but have not been able to get ahold of the WC to book the wedding. My FI thinks we should wait until closer to 2012 to book the resort, what are your opinions on this? I am a little lost on where to start the planning. Please help!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
