Dresses in tropical heat

Recommended Posts

I'm just wondering if anyone else is having this dilemma.  I just starting my wedding dress shopping and I"m having a hard time finding dresses that will be suitable for summer in Costa Rica.  The dresses are very nice but the fabric's are very heavy.  I know I should stick with certain fabrics.  We don't plan on having our ceremony until late afternoon but it will still be very hot and very humid.  When I'm shopping for my dress should I just go with a dress I love and melt on the day of OR should I stick with lighter fabrics?

I was torn between two dresses.  The first one was one that I really loved but it was a ballgown and made of taffeta which will be pretty hot.  The second was a lighter more flowy dress.  I eventually decided on the first dress as it was the one I loved and I figured Ill be hot in anything anyways!

I actually purchased my dress when I thought I was going to have a wedding at home.  I love it so much there is no way I am going to change it.  I will most likely be hot, but for the dress I am willing to suffer!  Its only going to be for the 20 min ceremony some pictures then cocktail hour and the reception will be inside with air conditioning so I am not too concerned.

Believe it or not, it's possible to find a great compromise!  When I first started trying on dresses, I felt the same.  But trust me, there are lots out there that are structured and "fancy" without being too heavy.  Some dresses that look really big aren't heavy at all, so don't let size be the only consideration.  I would suggest to stay away from most Maggie Sotteros, they tend to be heavy.  I found that lots of WTOO dresses are very light (I ended up choosing the Dulconee), and some Enzoani (ie Casablanca) and Mikaella as well.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
