Trash the dress shoot: Advice needed

Recommended Posts

Hello Ladies -

I'm planning on doing the TTD Shoot. When did you do it? The morning after the morning was suggested by my photographer.

Was this when you ladies did it? Were you tired after the long wedding day? Was it cold in the water in the morning?  My photographer suggested a start time of 8:30am.

Thank you in advance for your experiences/thoughts!

Hey!

It all depends what kind of shots you're looking for. We have an awesome photographer who has literally planned an entire day for us. We're leaving at 10am and not getting back until supper. She wanted it to go later so we could get sunset pics ;)

Morning or evening is suggested because it's the natural light is very good during that time.

If you think you'll be partying all night, then just explain that to your photographer. Otherwise you'll end up being tired and with circles under your eyes.

Yes, the water in the morning is definitely colder than say in the evening. Hard to say how much, but you won't be spending hours in the water so it shouldn't be a huge problem.

Cheers.

Thanks! And we were in Punta Cana too, so yes, it depends on what type of shots you are looking for.  As you see the lighting around 3ish is fine, we actually didn't dive in until more like 4 because we too some beachy and grass shots first

Most photographers prefer to do it in the morning (I was told 8:30 am by several photographers too when I was checking around) for two reasons - 1) the light is better than during mid-day and 2) it doesn't interfere with any wedding ceremonies/receptions that normally take place in the afternoon and evening.

However, you don't have to do it the morning after the wedding and in hearing from many brides on here, most choose to do it a few days later and all photographers are generally accommodating of this...if yours is not, honestly, you may wanna consider someone else who is! Our photographer is doing ours almost 6 days later (we're staying 2 weeks) on the morning of our choice because he takes you to a private beach for the whole morning and we didn't want to be away from our friends and family that long. You should have the choice of morning...ya wanna be able to celebrate the night of the night of the wedding and not worry about getting up early and/or being a little hungover ;)

And I doubt the water will be cold...I've yet to be down South any experience anything close to cold water, regardless of time of day :)

We're doing our TTD session the morning after, but our photographer said whatever day we wanted would be fine...  It will only be the two of us so I don't think we'll be too tired in the morning to get up, but if you know your reception will be late and you think you won't want to get up, ask your photographer about doing it a few days later.

I will usually give my brides the choice, morning or evening.

The nice thing about the morning after the wedding is that a lot of brides sleep with their hair still pinned up, so they have beautiful gentle waves for the portraits.   The real thing is, if you choose evening then you really shouldn't drink during the day, you have to be careful in the sun again, and you'll have to leave your family and friends in the middle of partying.  So if you do it in the morning, the high of the wedding is still there.  You still look amazing.  And you're back in time for when your guests are ready to hang out by the pool and eat!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
