Exact wedding date on invitation ? HELP !

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone !

I couldn't find a thread that chatted about this so I started one :)

My FI and I have booked Melia Las Dunas, Cayo Santa Maria, Cuba for the week of April 6-13th, 2012. Very excited ! However, we have still to get confirmation of the exact date and time of our wedding ceremony. We are ready to order our invitations but need this information. Our TA told us that normally you put your departure date on the invitation since the wedding date could change. I think that makes sense, but Im not totally convinced !

What did you guys do ?

Thanks so much !!

Danielle

We are getting married in January 2012 and in January of this year we sent out our save the dates.  We chose to only put the month, January, rather then a specific dates, which I'm really glad we did as our departure date changed and we had to change our wedding date.  We haven't sent out our invitations yet, and I'm not even sure we will as everyone has either told us yes they are coming or no they arent.  I guess its what you feel comfortable doing.

Hi Kay !

Thanks for your answer ! And congrats on your wedding !

We also sent out our STDs with only the month (April 2012). But now, as we are getting ready to send out our invitations, which will include an insert with all the details (TA, deposit, websites, travel dates..), we don't know what to put down as a date. I don't think I'm comfortable putting down the departure date, nor the travel dates... I think I'll wait for an answer from the WC.

Thanks !

that's funny, I'm waiting for everything to be ok'd by the resort before I send out the invites. I was told the departure dates can change by various TAs. But, that's my situation, planning a wedding for this August. I think if you are planning a year or so in advance, the rough days of travel are good enough.

I waited until I got a confirmation from my resort, which I am glad I did. I originally wanted April but had to go with May. I put our confirmed date on our STDs because I felt that my guests could then decide on how long & what exact days they would like to come for.

I would definitely wait for the right date for the official invitations.  You are still more than a year away so IMO it's better to wait than risk having to resend the invitations or inform everyone of the exact date via other means.

Yes, I agree you should wait for the confirmation back from the resort. You won't know for sure what times are available if any for the days you have in mind until it has been confirmed. But your doing good by booking your wedding date early because you are more likely to get the date and time you really want :)  I say don't listen to the TA with the 'destination/travel dates'. Your guests need to know the exact date and time of the wedding; they may want to arrive the day before and leave a week later or get there early and leave the day after or get there the day before and leave the day after. We don't know what they have in mind or whats more affordable/convenient for when they want to travel and personally I think it won't make them feel like they have to stay the same length of time, leave when you leave and get back when you get back. They may rule the whole wedding trip out if they assume that they can't go because they can't leave the same day or stay the same length of time. So, I say wait on the confirmation.  Getting the confirmation letter is exciting and you will want to share the exact date and time, once its set and final :)  Congrats in advance and happy planning!!!!

We waited until we got the resort to confirm our date and time.

Our departure dates HAVE changed, but not our wedding date.  So we are still good with the dates on the invite, and all we had to do was update the departure/return dates on our website.

I wouldn't put the departure dates, as not everyone may want to come on that day e.g. come two days later a day earlier etc.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
