Newbie - Planning a DW at the Grand Palladium Lady Hamilton - May 23, 2012

Recommended Posts

Hello Ladies,

I am getting married June 22, 2012 ( June 23 was already booked!!).  We are booking through destination weddings as well, Sunset2012, do you mind if I ask what they are charging you for accommodations?  We have changed the rates a few times because I have been able to find cheaper rates with other companies, but destinationweddings.com does match their price.  I am really ready to come to a final agreement, but I want to make sure I am getting the best rate for my guests.  Currently we are paying $328 (but I just found it for $320) for 3 nights for adults and $189 for children 3-12 (second child free), but I have just found it for $175 for children, first child free.  These are on the Grand Palladium side and include transfer.

Hello ladies-Just found this thread! I am a GPLH Bride for 01/30/2012 coming in fast! I have most of my planning done so if you have any questions let me know, all planning has gone smoothly thus far! My travel agent has been making the arrangements with the wedding coordinator because she seems to get back to her faster than me, its been working out great so far. Also my travel agent has been very helpful on some of the decisions since she has been there and has booked many different weddings and knows what kind of additional options are out there! Getting close can't wait!! Happy planning! :D

Hey everyone,

I'm also getting married at the GPLH. We're booked for 2pm at the gazebo on May 10, 2012!!!!

Just trying to reserve our reception now. My travel agent was initially the contact between us and the resort, but ever since we finalized our travel, she hasn't really done much. She's a great travel agent and took the time to explain how DW's work and what we need to do, etc... but when it came to booking the wedding details and reception things got a little confusing. She said we reserved the entry wedding package with dinner on the terrace even though we told her we wanted the Waves of Love package and a private reception. After being unable to find any info on a "terrace" dinner option, I contacted the resort directly and reserved the Blue Lagoon for a private reception. Not sure what my travel agent was talking about! lol but I'm glad the resort got back to me asap and we were able to reserve the proper dinner. :) :) :) :) :)

Now I'm just stuck on whether to go wth the Waves of Love or Island Pearl package!

Blue/brown are our colors but i think i might have my 2 bridesmaids in hot pink just for fun?.. so WoL works best with our color scheme however im NOT a huge fan of hydrangeas... i LOVE cala lilies .. which works with the IP (island pearl) one however... i no likey the tule aisle decorations or the wedding cake..so now im back with WoL...???? lol  I like how clean and simple island pearl is BUT i want all the extra upgrades that come with waves of love. So maybe i just need to change the flowers with WoL. Does anyone know if you can change the flowers??????

Anyone planning on doing a private reception at GPLH? If so, which location have you chosen ie) Poseidon or Blue Lagoon?

Also, what made you choose either?

And has anyone picked a photographer yet?

Sorry for all the loaded questions!

I'm getting married August 13th 2012 and have begun to panic ALREADY!!

we have picked the waves of love package...if you look through the packages and the prices, the only difference really is that you can add decor to the gazebo, where with the waves of love you cant.... but its alot more for the pearl, and to be honest you dont get much more out of it!

if you need any help let me know.

we have picked and reserved the blue lagoon for april 14th at 6pm..the reason i picked that location, was because its a little more private for us and our guests, plus its very open to the ocean and WOW just beautiful!

We have got a photographer who is a local to jamaica, i can pass her name on to you if you would like....shes great, and good rates

i really wouldnt panic, as long as you get the major stuff done ASAP IE: DRESS..SHOES..FI WEAR...WEDDING JEWELS..AND JUST THE RESORT STUFF, MENUS, RECEPTION (etc)

yopull be fine. Are you doing any DIY projects for the wedding? and are you bringing your own linens?

We're booked for a private reception at the blue lagoon. I didnt even consider the poseidon/ not sure where that is located on the resort but the Blue Lagoon has amazing ocean views and is open air ... I dont think it gets much nicer than that! :)

Not sure what the menu is like but i got quoted $30/pp for open bar, set menu and we have it from 6-10pm

Regarding the photographer, I can't comment as we didnt hire one. $2000-3000 just isnt in the budget for a photographer ... however we have 2 guests that do photography so we've covered a portion of their trip.

    • The cooking method can double the calorie content of a meal, so learn about healthy cooking without having to add extra fats, like using a steamer,  a rotisserie , a slow cooker , a pressure cooker, a grill. Once you cook your own meals, you can control the calorie content because your control the cooking method and all the ingredients. A lot of people are overweight because they keep eating food that they did not cook.
    • I have stayed at Dreams La Romana and Dreams Dominicus.  The two resorts are very different in style and decor. A few comparison points are below and fact sheets are attached for both.   Both resorts are approx 45 minutes from Punta Cana airport, close proximity to Saona Island, Catalina Island and Altos de Chavon. Top championship golf courses in the Caribbean are just minutes away including Teeth of the Dog, Dye Fore, The Links and La Estancia – all designed by world-famous Pete Dye. Restaurants are similar at both resorts.  Both offer the Explorers Club for Kids.  Dreams Dominicus  Brand new resort and in 2016 488 rooms (however additional construction was underway) More contemporary style & decor Good beach area Rooms were very nice Preferred Club located in main lobby and adjacent to main pool & beach front Food was good Center plaza area with nighttime entertainment Main lobby is small, but outdoor bar off lobby is nice Dreams La Romana Originally built in 2003 & opened as Dreams La Romana in 2008 756 rooms Recently renovated and new preferred club adults only lounge & pool added  Rooms are more traditional Caribbean decor Grounds are very lush and tropical Good beach area food was good    Dreams Dominicus fact sheet.pdf Dreams La Romana fact sheet.pdf
    • My sister has done it but with the destination wedding, only super close family members and friends came since it was expensive and farther. It was great though.
