First post Newbie! Looking for hotel advice;))

Recommended Posts

My fiance and I just got engaged last weekend and this is my first official post on this site!!;)))woot.gif

We are considering a wedding in the Mayan or Cancun area for next year, possibily Feb or March and are desperately seeking advice on which resorts may fit what we are looking for since neither of us have been to the area before!!

We're not sure if children would be coming so at this point we are open to suggestions for both adult only resorts and child friendly ones too!

We are looking for an all-inclusive resort that has lots of activities available for guests, fun pools, nightlife ( disco etc suitable for adults in their 30's up), an excellent swimable beach, good variety of restaurants and excellent service! As for the wedding, we are looking to have the ceremony on the beach followed by reception for approximately 40 guests and a great party! Obviously looking for a hotel that really makes an effort to make the wedding day amazing!

We don't even know where to begin, so hopefully someone out there may be able to help with suggestions?

Appreciate all your replies;)

Hey Lees!  Congratulations!  I haven't been to the Riviera Maya yet, but I'm also planning a wedding Feb/Mar 2012.  The reason I replied is that I noticed you're in Vancouver - so am I !welcome.gif   I really like the Barcelo Maya, it's pretty huge (4 - 5 hotels within the hotel offering high, medium and low cost accommodations), beautiful beach/pools and from what I've heard the restaurants are good too.  Good luck planning!  Let me know what you end up deciding.

Hi Tropic Lover ( love the nickname lol)! Thank you so much for replying, yes we live in Vancouver and congratulations to you too! Thanks for the hotel recommendation, I also heard that Baha Principe hotels are good too, have you heard anything? Have you reached out to any travel agents yet? I'm a bit hesitant to pick just any travel agent right away as my cousin has been planning her wedding in PV Mexico and her travel agent quoted everyone nearly $500 more than we could find for the same deal online! huh02.gif Yikes, these are the days you wished you had a friend in the business! Have you found a travel agent that you would recommend in Vancouver?

Thanks and good luck to you too! cheesy.gif

I'm having the same problem with quotes...everything is so high.  My first set of quotes for Feb/Mar 2012 were sent to me at the beginning of Jan...and they were around $1800 pp including tax...which again was $300 - 500 more than the 2011 prices.  The travel agent I was working with said to wait another month or two for the prices to come down.  I'm currently waiting to see what she finds.

As you can probably tell I haven't settled with one TA.  I've been in touch with a few more to see what they can do for me.  One of the most recent replies I received was to book the hotel and flight separately - this is mainly because the 2012 flight schedule isn't out yet. I haven't fully decided on what to do.  Realistically I'd like to see the dollar figure as a package and then an estimated figure if we booked separately.

Another Vancouverite from the "Recent or new weddings at NOW JADE" thread: http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/thread/69363/recent-or-new-weddings-at-now-jade/10#post_1566732 said she knows a really good Canadian TA.  I've written her back asking for the contact.  When I get it I'll let you know!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
