The catering company Kissing Fish (which is owned and operated by the same people that own Bay Bistro) did our rehearsal dinner/beach BBQ.  It was FABULOUS!  I can't say enough good things about the food and how nice the staff were.  Plus if you are having your wedding at the somerset, it's right next door.  We met with Clive, the owner, the day before to go over everything.  It started at 6PM, and went until the party ended (after minight!).  They provided us with music, microphones, table decorations, did all of the setup/cleanup and provided us with smores to go with the bonfire they made for us!  We couldn't have asked for a more fun and delicious BBQ!

I'm hoping Krys or some of the other brides can help with this one....

We still haven't decided on a venue, and have recently read about Northwest Point Resort.  Can anyone shed some light on this place?  Has anyone here had their wedding there?  We usually stay on the other side of Grace Bay, but would love a less crowded scene, but I'm also nervous that this is too far  from town.  Thoughts?

Northwest Point resort is WAY out there...I haven't been there in a few years, but it would be in the category of cheap and cheerful, and not the caliber of resorts in Grace Bay.  The restaurant is not open very often or at all anymore (not sure as I don't know anyone who has been out there in a while and 2-3 years ago, the resort was looking a bit worn.)   You will have to come into town for restaurants/food/groceries/excursions, and look at a 25-35 minute drive (vs 5 minutes in Grace Bay  (the exception would be Amanyara which is about a 20 minute ride west, very nice hotel and beach but the road to there is not paved and rough.  The beach at NWP resort is on the North side like grace bay but because there is a lot of turtle grass in the water around the Northwest Point area, there is a lot of grass/seaweed wash up on the beach.  unless someone is raking it a couple times a day, it gets a bit messy.   It is not the pristine beach like Grace Bay.    Unless you are staying at Beaches you will find the resorts on Grace Bay pretty quiet (unless it is Easter Break or Christmas Break).   That seems to be why people keep on coming back to the T&C because Grace Bay is low key and not crowded.

Personally, I wouldn't do NWP resort for a wedding, but that is my own opinion based on distance/convenience/beach (I was there some a while back because we had friends that rented a condo there and my kids would go for playdates/bday parties, they moved closer into Grace Bay).  However I haven't been there in a few years so I can't comment on condition of the resort now and if they have upgraded the rooms/restaurant etc.  We have not had a wedding there that I know of....

Hope that helps.

Krys

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
