Hey ladies!! FI and I are planning for January of 2013 in Oahu! We were originally planning an average wedding here in Oregon, but decided to go with our guts instead :) I'm looking around for an all-inclusive wedding package in Oahu, or some advice on how in the heck to plan it on my own!! I'm trying to spend no more than $1300, so I'd appreciate any help that you all have :) It's just going to be the two of us, so nice and intimate!

Congrats to you all! :D

Hey pacificgirl... Fellow Oregonian here! And hello to all the other BDW Brides, congrats on your engagements! I've been a steadfast lurker for the past +/- 8 weeks and am now transitioning into a active member here on the boards. My Fi and I have officially set a date of May 18, 2013, this will be our exact 6 year anniversary of our first date! We decided on the Now Jade Riviera Cancun Resort for our destination wedding and couldn't be more excited. We have actually traveled to the Riviera Maya to celebrate our 2nd and 4th anniversaries so the location is very fitting.

Hi All!  I'm a noobie also - think I'll be a January 2013 bride!  :-)

Destination TBD - This is my second wedding and I'm an event planner by day, so REALLY didn't think this was going to be so hard but seriously struggling with choosing a location!

Hi

We finally booked our date at the Barcelo Palace and I am super excited!!!! We have had to push the date from this May 18 (our 10 yr anniversary) to next Feb 18 because my fiance has taken a course that ends in June. I can't wait until we can book our air but our travel agent says August which I find strange. Does anyone else have that problem? We can pay this deposit and get a booking number for the resort but we won't know the cost until august which is kind of stressful.

I am going to start working on a boarding pass for STD, and work into a passport for the formal.  When can I start to send this out for a May 2013 wedding.  Also, since it destination wedding, what do you all think about getting married on a Thursday?  Is that too weird?  I am thinking Thursday so I can relax for the rest of the weekend and not be a nervous wreak!

Yeah, hate to say it, but I would talk to another travel agent. I also think you can get your dates far earlier than that too. We are going to a small place, in a low travel season, and we can still book about 14 months in advance.

Just because prices aren't out for dates on travel sites like expedia, doesn't mean travel agents don't get prices earlier.

As far as Thursday, we are getting married on a Thursday, too. We are getting there on a Saturday, so I do not like having such a long break before we say I DO. But oh well! Whatever works, right?

I've had such a hard time getting together all the addresses and people our fams want to invite. My fam is out of town for a month so here I am hunting down their friends to get their address lol. Luckily we are only inviting family and a few family friends so they all pretty much know about it already.

So you ladies are already starting to buy things you want for the wedding? My family told me to wait and that I was rushing things in the begining, phew now I dont feel so bad.   I wanted to get personalized parasols and a personalized aisle runner I know I need to do that a few months ahead of time so maybe that would be good to get out of the way ..omgosh the more I read the more anxiety I am having lol!  ... I guess I should start ordering some of the things I know I want and get to investigating some florists and hairstylists.

No, don't panic! I am starting to get things because I wanted to start doing things now, and there is only so much I can do ahead of time. :)  Part of the reason we are having a long engagement is so we can spread out the spending a little :)

Plus, I like wedding stuff, and love doing it all for as long as possible... :)

Hi, All

About resort prices:  You should be able to find a TA who can get you 2013 prices.  The prices could fluctuate when the prices go public (for example, May 2013 prices probably wont be out until middle 2012), but your TA should be able to adjust it down if there is a significant drop.  I HIGHLY recommend my TA if anyone is looking for someone.  You can find her contact info on my wedding site: http://CourtneyMara.com/Wedding.

About airline prices:  I wouldn't fret.  Airlines tend not to release schedules so soon because of changes to schedules and travel patterns (I think).  However, I feel that prices don't change that much from year to year because of competititon. So, I am just assuming that the prices will be about the same (or maybe a little more if gas prices increase) and as soon as they are released I am booking. I am not too worried because I think the price from DC to Jamaica is comfortable for my guests.  We didn't choose a farther/more remote destination because we didn't want the airline cost to be a factor in our guest's decision to come or not.

To all 2013 brides:  CONGRATS!!  And, HAPPY PLANNING!

Courtney

Hi Everyone again and congrats to the new joiners!

I was reading this page on Valentine's Day, and everyone was so happy that I did not post.  My FI has been battling cancer since April of 2012.  He has had chemo, one minor and two major surgeries.  We were under the impression he was in the clear.  We picked our resort, ordered STDs, made our wedding website and picked our bridal party. My FI began experiencing headaches that were abnormal.  I emailed his oncologist and an MRI was ordered. On Valentine's Day, we were called and told that he had a 4cm brain tumor and to go to the hospital immediately.  We have been so positive, but when you hear brain surgery, I thought the worst.  He still made an effort to make me smile and happy on Valentine's Day even though we were in the hospital.  The surgery was this morning.  He looks great.  They got the tumor.  He has no side effects that we were warned of.  It is amazing.  The neurology team is amazing and sensitive and patient.  We are waiting for the pathology to confirm that the tumor is cancer, and he has to start radiation if so.

I am sharing this because I searched BDW site for a group for the people that are planning their wedding in the midst of illness.  There didn't seem to be any.  Not to preach, but cherish your health, and the health of your partner.  I felt like the luckiest woman on earth today when I saw him in recovery.  I share my story, because I know people will wish him the best.  And we need that!

On a lighter note, I am pumped to go back to planning.  I came back from the hospital today to find my STDs delivered.  It looks like I will have something to keep me busy while I keep him company in the hospital--carefully print the addresses of my favourite people on the planet to invite to my DW in Mexico.

Keeping all my fingers and toes crossed that this is nearly the end of our journey with cancer.

I hope this was inspiring rather than depressing.

Katie

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
