Welcome and congratulations!

Okay, so, take a deep breath.

Then, imagine your dream wedding. Is it big? Intimate? Do you already travel a lot? Do you want to be someplace you have been before or do you want to try someplace new? Look at some reviews (but be wary of tripadvisor... take with a grain of salt). Ask around.

This is what we did, which may help you out. We have been to all inclusives before, and knew that is what we wanted. We have been to Mexico before, and decided we wanted to go somewhere we had never been, and somewhere we probably wouldn't go back to in a while, so we ruled out Mexico. We wanted to go somewhere with spectacular beaches. A lot of Caribbean places filled that requirement. We wanted to go somewhere FI's parents had not been before either... So that also ruled out Cuba and Jamaica. Well, not ruled out, but we leaned away from it.

Then, we started looking at the Dominican. At first I was looking at Dreams Punta Cana and was pretty much sold. FI and his dad also were looking at different places online. A bunch of people we know had stayed at different Gran Bahia Principe places before, and I had only heard good things about that chain, so we started looking at more of those, out of curiosity. Then we saw GBP Cayacoa, in Samana. We liked that it was different, off the beaten path, and pictures looked lovely. That led us to Cayo Levantado, which is on its own island.

Well, after FI heard that, he was sold, and I loved that it was somewhere totally different. It is not too big, not too small, and seriously into the relaxing vibe. We are lay on the beach people, big on relaxation, and this place looks great for that. If we were into partying big time, it would not be such a good place.

So, decide what is important to you. Do you want a huge resort, where you may or may not bump into your group? Do you want lots of meal options? Maybe near some great excursions? Do you want to be in - or near - a city, or in the middle of nowhere? Jungle? Beach? Mountain?

Maybe once you start ruling out what you DON'T want, it will be easier to figure out what you do. For us, as soon as we started researching our location, we knew it was "the one". Haha!

I don't think that you are behind...we haven't sent our official save the dates out but we have let some people know. Our wedding is not going to be that large and luckily the resort is basically doing everything for us so I am kinda sorta in coast mode. I have know clue about the dress that I want to wear either, all I know is that I want to make sure that whatever I chose travels well. As for my groom, I think that we are leaning more towards the khaki colored suit with a white shirt and possibly a tie. Not sure about the groomsmen or bridesmaids. How about you? What size wedding are you having?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
