Hi! I am a May 42013 bride, seems so far away! We are getting married in Playa Del Carmen. We were torn between Playa and Turks and Caicos. Turks is our fave place on earth! But Playa was as lot more affordable for both us and our guests; plus we have a lot of single friends and Turks doesn't have a nightlife really. Anyways I am so excited!! We went for a week and Jan and just booked our wedding planner, reception place and photographer.... I think for STD we are just doing a website and sending out our invites (passports) 6 months prior.

I too am a newbie! My FI and I are getting married at the Sandals Grande Riviera in Ocho Rios, Jamaica on April 12, 2013. We are SUPER excited. We have just gotten our Save the Dates and pricing out to our guests! Besides that we really haven't done much, i've tried on dresses but am no 100% on that decision yet!

Best of luck to all the new brides!

This is kinda a test. I have attempted to post 2 replies to other brides in this thread and they are not showing up. I posted probably about 4 days ago and it said that the post was being held for moderating, then they didn't post at all? What's taking so long?

I Shall try this again.

Shay-4966- that is such a great idea! I think I may steal it.

My general idea is to send the STD's out with the brochure I made which explains everything about the resort such as what's included in the price, travel dates (because everyone may not want to travel sames dates), travel agent information, our website to pre-RSVP, and our blog site. This will allow them to think what they need to think and still have sufficient amount of time to put a deposit or pay the entire trip off.

Also there is a general rule that if you have a wedding at a resort 80% of the people attending must stay at the resort the wedding is being held (at least at my resort). Since I have 87 invitations (not people) I felt it could get tedious keeping track of that many, I needed them to know this in case they try for the surrounding sister resorts.

To save on postage I have everyone RSVP on the website (which is a cool tool and saves money), then after I get a more realistic number of people coming I will know a realistic amount of invitations to send out, with luggage tags.

I know a lot of people are trying to save but I think it depends on how many people you plan on attending, I have more then 100 prospects people going so I needed to narrow that down. I ended up making my STD's and I love them, not just the look but I cut cost by half.

CourtandMatt- We are using a wedding planner, but I wonder if a good TA would provide assistance with planning off resort wedding. Do you know? I am getting a little frustrated with our planner right now. Instead of off resort wedding locations she is giving me other locations that are at more high class boutique resorts which is not what I want.

What kind of experiences are everyone else having with TAs?

Elissae - Good idea to skip the cost of Save the Dates!  My FI and I didn't want to do Save the Dates, we found it to be a cost that was not necessary especially since we are sending invites so far in advance, but his mom wanted them and so she paid for them, which was very welcome.

soonCB - CONGRATS and welcome to the site!!  I am also getting married in Jamaica so yay to Jamaica!   With regard to wedding planners - my TA acts as a wedding planner.  Have you found a TA yet because you should make sure your TA does destination weddings

mrsrepp - Thank goodness you found that out now.  It is a national holiday with two days off so many people head to the beach and prices will go up!  May is a great time!!

Shay4966- I love your idea about pre-RSVPing on the webisite. I may do that too:)

My husband and I are renewing our vows in 2013. We're planning for August and I am just as much a wreck as I was with our wedding. I am a perfectionist and planning a wedding in another country has me on edge. I'm hoping this will be a smooth process as to not drive my husband nuts! BangHead.gif

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
