I know that you can put a deposit down to hold your wedding date etc but I'm reluctant to do that not knowing flight schedules or pricing...I'm nervous to book and then find out that its gonna cost my guests $1800/person..don't want to lose a deposit so I guess I'll be waiting!

My Travel agent was able to get me pricing for Dreams La Romana, Gran Bahia La Romana, Gran Bahia Jamaica, and Ocean Blue - Punta Cana over a month ago........we didn't end up going with Dreams as it was more than I wanted to ask my guests to pay... but she was able to do pricing back then. (For April 2013) She got us pricing through Transat, and we have 30 spaces reserved with just our two deposits for 90 days for our guests to get their deposits in.

PM me if you would like her contact info - she is north of Toronto somewhere, but I'm from Kingston, ON and have just been dealing with her via phone/email.

Hello ladies,

I am also a 2013 bride!  My FI and I know we want all-inclusive and are looking at Mexico or Jamaica but other than that we don't have anything planned yet.  We are thinking winter 2013 for our wedding so I know we need to get moving on resort choices etc but it is a little overwhelming (and it doesn't help that I am indecisive ;).  In Mexico we keep coming back to Moon Palace and Now and we haven't looked too much into Jamaica (yet).  If anyone has any words of advice on how they narrowed the field of choices I'd love to hear it!   Happy Planning!

Congrats. My fiancé n I are thinking about July 20,2013. We are thinking of Jamaica. I am leaning very much to Grande Pallidium or Iberostar beach. I am having issues getting in touch with a coordinator for both location. The numbers on Gp websites are all out of service. Maybe we can team up n plan out wedding.

I'm SO detailed orientated... As I am looking for "Jamaican" things for my oots and every other part of my wedding there aren't many things for Jamaica... that's the best way I can describe it. I love the whole idea of the Luau party in Hawaii.. there are more sites to see in Hawaii that I would love to do.. In Jamaica on the west side of the island there aren't very many excursions you can take at all. It is just a whole mixture of things.

Peach:

I really want it to be an even number.  I just like how it looks in pictures.  I really just wish we could have had only one or two though but my FI needs his three BFFs.  I am going to try to figure a way to get everyone to have some part (my other BFFs).

I would have been okay with one on each side, but I decided to have a moh and one bm... (my moh will only be 17 at the time). FI is only having one buy stand up with him. So maybe, if it is easier to only ask one, then do that.

Otherwise, maybe try to find something else for the other important people to do... Like a reading, or something like that?

Good luck!

First, CONGRATS!!  Second, we first looked at country requirements since we wanted to be legally married in that country.  Jamaica is very simple whereas Mexico had a lot of requirements.  We also looked at DR which has no requirements, if I remember correctly.  What it came down to in the end is wanting our ceremony and certificate in English which only Jamaica could provide of those three (without translation).  We also looked at the Bahamas (which has little requirements), but we didn't find an all inclusive and prices that we liked.  Good luck!

p.s. just an FYI, my TA highly recommends weddings in the DR.

NickyL:

We originally booked at the Grand Palladium (you can find some of my earlier threads about that), but changed it to Iberostar.  We just read a lot of bad reviews (there are good reviews, but too many bad reviews for us).  We also didn't like the sound of the beach (so many negative comments).  And, our final straw was when our TA, who is a family friend of ours, said she would never book us at the GP.  So far I have only heard wonderful things about Iberostar Rose Hall Suites (not sure about beach) and have had a great time working with their WC.

HOpe this helps,

I could totally see not wanting to do a wedding in Jamaica if you are detailed oriented.  My FI and I are so carefree about the wedding that Jamaica has been just perfect for us.  I hope it all works out for you!

Nicky - Can I ask what made you narrow it down to these two options?

Thanks Court - I am also wondering if we should go with Jamaica because of the legal requirements etc - I think Mexico has some beautiful options but I know a lot of brides do a justice of the peace thing at home first in order to avoid the blood tests and residency requirements.

Thanks Court - I think Jamaica might be the way we go too, it is just much easier without the extras to worried about.  I know Mexico has beautiful resorts but the hassle of the blood test and residency requirements are a pain that I would rather avoid.  I know many brides opt for a justice of the peace legal ceremony at home first but I don't think that is what I want to do.  Choices, choices!  Thanks again for your advice :)

I think it really depends on where you are going, and when, and lots of details.

I am okay waiting until May, since I know there won't be other weddings booking before me... well probably not, anyway. A definite plus side to going off season and a little away from the more tourist areas.

My travel agent has tried to get pricing, but simply cannot yet, so I am okay.

I would say that it depends on you. You are looking in a more popular time to travel, with less than a year to go... I would maybe bring up some concerns to your travel agent... I am really surprised you cannot get prices yet.

I'm a June 2013 bride.  We are looking towards the Riviera Maya area, FI likes Dreams RC (I don't, bc they don't allow outside vendors) and I am leaning towards Now Sapphire, but I just don't know sad.gif.

Although I absolutely love this site, everytime I come online, I end up seeing something better and changing my mind, and I am so anxious to book a resort, (I'm probably way ahead of the game).  I can't wait to start planning!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
