Pre Christmas Surprise

Recommended Posts

My FI and I had been planning to get married for sometime before he actually proposed. He had been telling me for awhile that I would have to wait until Feb/Mar since the fall. We were going to see my family in the midwest for Christmas so we had decided that we would have "our" Christmas on Dec 20. He said that we should do something special on that evening before we open gifts, perhaps go to the restaurant we went to on our first date 3yrs ago, I thought it was a great idea.

We had gone snowboarding a couple days before and we had talked about remembering when being kids, playing out side and being so cold then coming inside and having your mom make hot chocolate and snuggling under a blanket. At dinner he thought we should go for a walk in Stanley Park and get all cold and come home and make hot chocolate. I'm thinking he's crazy - it's windy, cold and possibly the rain is going to wreck the hour's work I spent on straightening my hair. He pipes up "I brought an umbella" - I laugh and tell him's thought of everything except for the stiletto's I'm wearing but I agree. Although, the entire night I'm thinking that it would be the perfect night to propose but he had been telling me that it would be at least a few months out I was pretty positive it wasn't happening.

We drive to the park and find a clearing where we had a great view of Lionsgate Bridge and West Van - the wind is blowing all the hair in my face, I'm trying to keep balance in my stilettos on the grass and all of a sudden he says "I have a rock in my shoe" and I'm wondering why he's telling me that so I just say "I guess you should deal with it then". I'm trying to get my hair out of my face and he's still on his knees and I can't figure out what he's doing as it was SO dark. He calls my name and I turn to him and he's on his knee with an open ring box and asks me to marry him (It is SO dark that I think it's just a box - like in that scene in Knocked Up when Seth Rogen's character is sort of proposing to Catherine Heigl's character by saying "this box is a promise....") I don't really remember what happened next but apparently I was so suprised that I kept stepping back and he had to reach out and grab me as we were on a downwards slope and apparently I faltered a bit and if he didn't catch me, I would have landed in the ocean! He finally asks for my answer and I told him "of course" then he told me there's a ring too! It was pretty surreal and amazing

It turns out he had been carrying the ring and the box around all night in his sock just praying that it wouldn't fall out!!!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
