ROR Brides (Riu Ocho Rios)

Back from my wedding, November 30! :) Just a few pointers...our group was doing a double wedding (on different days, but within the same week)...we were moved to the Plantation (at no extra cost besides the 10.50 pp above the package). We were served the steak house menu, DO not pay for a bar...the pool bar is next to the plantation and the servers got drinks for our entire group of 57. The day before the wedding, Patricia offered me the private poolside reception at NO COST. I refused it because it would have been buffet style and not served. So, don't pay the $1000.00 for "private reception" at the plantation. Our friends who got married did the semi-private (same as us) and there was no one in the mammee bay restaurant, they section you off so there is privacy. Just an FYI to future brides. :)

OH and everything went splendid. Patricia was amazing. I have no complaints. :)

So glad to hear your wedding was great ! Do you by chance have Patricia's email. Keisha is away Nd have Patricia's email but it's wrong and I am trying to find out if she has picked up the documents for out wedding. Thanks!

Ours is Nov. 28 this year!!

I am doing free everything lol. Did you bring anything with you for decorations? Do you have any pictures? How was the weather?

Just incase anyone is interested... I will be bringing down my own decor for my wedding JAN 16/2014. Im bring chair ties, tulle for the gazebo, aisle runner, orchid center pieces, material for the head table  etc)  Color theme is Turquoise blue. I realllly dont wanna bring it all back with me and if anyone is interested in buying them off me when they are there they are more then welcome to ! Just seeing if there would be any interest

ah I need turquoise for November. Think you can hide it away somewhere for me? lol

I think sharing is an awesome idea!

Hello! I used destinationweddings.com, my TA is wonderful. I was quoted $2900 for a week stay in one of the suites. My guests were quoted at $850 and up for 3 nights, 4 days. I encouraged them to stay longer if they had the time off since it only makes a $50 difference if that. We are flying from Detroit, Mi.

$2900 for the both of you?

I got my quotes after. Our group is flying from two different Canadian provinces. One is paying 1300 + tax and the other is 1600 + tx (7 nights)

Hey I was wondering what you ladies were going to do about hair. Has anyone heard/seen any hair styles done in the resort? Is there a place close by that may be more affordable?? I am not sure what I am going to do or where I am going to get it done :)

I looked into hiring someone local and bringing in because I can't find many reviews on the spa there and this girl has awesome reviews and pictures of her work. She charges $70 per hair and makeup so that would be $140 each for me and 3 bridesmaids = $520 and she charges $100 travel fee and her and her partner require a $90 guest pass each to get on the resort so that is over $800!!!! Starting to think the spa is looking better.

Hi Everyone!!

I'm not new to this site, it's how I chose the Riu,  though I just stumbled upon this thread and there was so much great info I had to register.

Danielle, I hope you had a great wedding!! I feel like I'm on the same path as you! They keep messing with my time, date and pricing… And I just started T25!!

Some things I think I've figured out… Though we'll c how it goes.

To avoid the DJ/mic fees- We bought a Bose speaker from Costco for 260ish which has an ion battery that runs for 6-8hrs and downloaded a free app called micpro for free which plugs in with an aux cord for. All in all… free music for two weeks and a mic included. No $$ to the resort

Went with fake flowers from hibiscus floral in Toronto area…. Very fast and professional… I'll have them all week and they won't wilt. Ended up the same cost as Tia Flora. My photo is the first-not final- version of them.

Bringing an amazing photographer from Punta Cana. Company is HDC. You own your photos and video…. Hopefully he shows up and so do the photos after. :)

ALSO!!! The reason I signed up…..

For a budget friendly bride….

I saw someone was saying they would give/sell their decor at the resort…. I thought that was awesome! I'll have lots of stuff someone is welcome to have if they are around between March 29th and April 6th.

60 fuchsia chair ties.

Tulle and lots of it….

Possibly 5 tall glass vases

pink beads and centrepieces.

Let me know if this helps anyone.

:)

I would love more info regarding the Bose speaker and how it works? Will you be able to use it during the semi private dinner for first dances?

just a heads up... best images..  aka  michael sondern photography  is not longer going to be the on site photographer... so if youhave him booked i would really be careful... as his track record with standing behind his word....  well  SUCKS...   just ask him why he goes thru more photographers then  any other company...     and ask him why all the big name guys    used to work for him.. and  all left   to start their own companies...       he  uses jamaican people to get ahead...   and the  fires them without paying them...

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
