ROR Brides (Riu Ocho Rios)

Recommended Posts

I had a private dinner and reception for 38 people, and I went with the FREE Wedding package so that i could choose my own flowers versus having the lil bunch of flowers they would give you. I also had 6 Bridesmaids bouquets, 6 groomsmen bout, and 2 parents corsages/boutineres...plus everything else. I chose the free wedding package as the upgraded packages didn't give me the same choice for picking my own decor/flowers so instead of paying $1275-$1750+ for one of the other packages, I decided to pay for my decor myself and get what i wanted and go with the $500 "free" wedding pkg...there were no extra benefits that i could see from those other packages. Not when you do a private dinner/reception.  Here is my break down from Jan's Florist: Also note that i used my Bridesmaids bouquets as the centre pieces for the dinner & reception...I just added 4 candles around each and rented the vases from Jan's ...worked perfectly. Simple but beautiful color and multi -use :)

You would have less costs if you have a smaller bridal party then I did, cause I had flower costs for 14 bridal party members. FYI - The florist bills you through the wedding co-ordinator at the Riu...they don't settle any money directly, which is very convenient.

Well, four of my bridesmaids are wearing a smokey grey colour and then my MOH is wearing blush pink...so the tie backs for the chairs will be grey and then the rose petals will be mostly blush pink with some fuschia and then I'll have the same colour scheme for the bouquets and flower arrangements.  I'm contemplating doing an arch with flowers and drapings instead of using the gazebo as it's only $180 for that option with Jan's Flowers.  How about yourself???

I'm torn actually.  i like the idea of silvery purple and a light grey.  but I also like the idea of pink/fusia/white.  Am I in trouble that i haven't figured that out and booked the florist yet? I just confirmed the date and I'm working on the group rate and booking with the travel agent.  Do they need a lot of notice? We're 6 months out and I am starting to realize that I have a lot to do.

Hi Lucy, I booked my florist with only 6 weeks left AND I changed some stuff right up to 2 weeks before the wedding date ...you have a ton of time ;) I had 6 Bridesmaids, centre pieces, decor etc...so it was alot of stuff....they are good with arranging even 2 days before so no worries there :)

Hi KDoyle! Did you have a DJ? If so, was he good?
Hi alyce, we paid to rent the equipment only, but the dj who's equipment it was stayed with it so he watched over things but in all honesty, I had put a playlist together and it worked perfectly!

Yes, I agree with KDoyle...you still have plenty of time:)  Just make sure you've booked your flight/hotel and the wedding day/time (with the resort) and get your documents together (passports and Long Form Birth Certificates),  and the rest should all fall into place!  I am also approx. 5-6 months away from my wedding date, so I understand your nervousness!  I like the colours schemes that you are considering, but I guess it will depend on what look you are going for...modern/edgy and chic would be the silvery purple and light grey and vibrant and tropical would be the pink, fuschia, and white....both looks would be gorgeous!

Hey Yassy, So sorry I'm late getting back to you, I had a ridiculously busy week and weekend last week!! Soooo wishing I was back in Jamaica right now. lol

I can't remember what time the beach party started or ended - I had it the night of our welcome dinner and we got there after it had started -- it was probably around 8:30pm though when it started and it went for quite some time --I want to say til around 11-11:30ish.... the disco is open after 11pm though ...although I'm not a huge fan of the disco there.

We didn't end up hiring the DJ but I rented the system for the 4 hrs...I got it for $150/hr from Keisha and Patricia honored it. I did it for the 4 hrs because our first dance, speeches, toast, and father/daughter dance were all throughout dinner & dessert...I wanted the last 2 hrs to dance/party! :) Also I negotiated staying til 11pm with Keisha --- at no extra cost.  You could totally use an ipod dock for background music if you want for dinner ...but if you want the Mic then I would just rent it for the extra 2hrs. If your at semi private dinner in a restaurant thought then you won't be allowed to play ipod dock or have a Mic.

Let me know if you have any extra questions, Im happy to help.

Kerry

Hey Kerry,

Thanks for responding:)  I'm not sure if you've already mentioned this, but did you have your reception poolside?  Or at the Plantation restaurant?  I think you said you did the Private Poolside reception, but I just want to make sure, as I love how your reception looked:)

Thanks!!!

Yassy

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
