Melissa, your gift to your husband made me tear up again.
That is such a thoughtful gift.

I am probably going to do B-pics, but we are paying for everything ourselves, so we really shouldn't be getting anything else.
I love this idea. I might just have to do it. I will not get the groom socks though cause he will never wear them. lol

We had it on the table with our cake and everything...it ended up really pretty. That was my gift to him.

That is such a beautiful, thoughtful idea... wow, I am speechless. My FH's mom died when he was 11, and I do things like buy flowers for him on Mother's Day in honor of her... but what a good idea for the wedding! Thanks!

bump.gif So what is everyone getting their FI for the big day?

I finally decided on what to get my guy for each of our events, but now it's a matter of making it all happen financially. FI never, ever splurges on material things for himself. He works tirelessly at least 6 days a week, and often 7, to provide for us. Until very recently (like super recent), I was unemployed. I'd had a series of unexpected, random surgeries and procedures over the summer, then ended up having to study for the CA bar exam. He says his goal is to be a better person for me. So, needless to say, now that I'm marrying my Prince Charming, I will do everything in my power to give him something to show him how much I appreciate him and love him. Of course, he doesn't NEED it, but it's not about what he needs. It's about being able to finally give back a little to him after all he's done for me, especially bc he wouldn't spend this money on himself. Ahh sorry for the blabbing...

Courthouse/legal ceremony: engraved money clip or cufflinks. FI doesn't have any cufflinks, so a special nice pair would be something special and something he could use/doesn't already have. Also practical and could be of good use, a money clip. Right now, FI likes to crumple his bills into his pockets. lol

Mexico DW: I consider this to be our real wedding and "the big day," so I'm hoping to make it special. From another bride (I'm sorry, can't remember exact bride), I am borrowing the idea of socks for "cold feet" and a nice watch so he's not late to the wedding! FI loves watches and my father is actually a watch collector. So, I know a bit about good timepieces and want to get him something extra special for the big day. Along with that will be a card and my boudoir album. Always a bargain hunter, I found a great deal for $70 for the actual 2 hour session itself. Then, pics are individually priced, but it was still a fantastic deal after doing the math. And, instead of a ton of unedited pics, each and every one that I want will be retouched, without ever having to look at ugly pics of me trying to be alluring! hahaha

AHR: I'm weird bc due to popular demand (read as: our parents are crazy, mine are traditional vietnamese, and adults act like kids throwing tantrums that we're not having a big reception), we're having a more formal reception than we are our actual DW. Anyhow, FI is a HUGE Michael Jackson fan, and we both have always wanted to go see the Cirque de Soleil shows. Soooo, this past Monday, I bought us tickets to the show when it hits LA. Our AHR is in mid-january, and the MJ Cirque show is in late January, so timing is perfect! Now the hard part.... keeping it a secret for over 8 months!!!

Wow!  What a great gift!!!  Have you thought about some expensive/nice cuff links?!  I know it's not much compared to the car, but you could always personalize them by putting your wedding date or something on them?!  Good luck deciding!  I haven't even thought about this yet!

Tom just asked if I would like him to pay off my car for his wedding gift to me. He said he knows it's not a keepsake, but that it will help me get debt-free, which I agree with. I told him that's great and I think it's a FABULOUS gift.

I have my BD album for him, but it seems like an awfully small gift compared to paying several thousand dollars to pay off the car.

Curious what others have gotten from your men?

Also, other ideas on something I can perhaps add to my BD album gift to make it seem a little more substantial...

I'm not supposed to be getting a gift, as we agreed not to exchange gifts, but I think I'm going to get my FI something anyways!  He works in television, and has been dying to get a GoPro, which is this super tiny HD video camera that's uber durable and can be used to shoot underwater stills and video.  I figure it will be perfect to use while we're away for some underwater shots, and I know he'll get a lot of use out of it when we get home!  I know its not the standard gift, and its not engraved and whatnot, but I know it will totally make his day!

I wouldn't worry about it being the standard gift - guys are practical, so if he would love it then I say go for it! I think I'm going to get my FI's wedding band engraved (on the inside) and splurge for Del Sol's underwater boudoir session (if you haven't seen it, you MUST go to their blog)!

I've been thinking about this - we're paying for a lot ourselves and while I wouldn't probably be able to afford anything extravagant, I would still like to have something special. My FI does like watches but he's never spent like more then $50 on one... I guess I should keep an eye out for something nice!

And he always gets me jewelry for Christmas and stuff.. I don't want to ask for any jewelry.. although I just (at 28 years old) got my ears pierced two days ago because i want to be able to wear earrings for the wedding, so maybe I'll ask for earrings.. lol.. but keep the ideas coming!

Hi there, have you tried the internet "exclusive" deals sites? You have to be invited to them, but once you join, you have access to all these deals. I'm a member of ... well, as many as possible. Bought our friend a nice watch for his birthday for only $75 (plus shipping). It's something to consider. Some of the watches are heavily discounted.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
