so tell me about your backyard BBQ AHR

Recommended Posts

I decided i really want to do this as elegantly and inexpensively as possible.  I know i want to do a slide show of our pro pics from Jamaica.  Question is how to pull this off.

What did you wear?

Did you ask your guests to dress up?  (I am thinking no)

HOW did you do a slide show your house - and was it indoor or outdoor?

Did you do a cake cutting?  (I plan to get a cake since i couldn't get the one I wanted in Jamaica)

Did you play music?

Was there dancing?

What else did you do besides eat and drink??

What else can you tell me that is creative and have not thought of at all?

thanks so much!!!

Well I have not had my AHR yet, but this is what I plan on doing.

We are inviiting abut 50 ppl (hope alot dont show up small yard). I plan on decorating the yard with a couple of gazebos (bought 2 last year really cheap ones) I will put some tables in there with chairs and decorate the yard with tulle and sparkle white lights, maybe some chinese lanterns(also chairs and tables not under gazebo).  I do plan on wearing 2nd wedding dress that I have purchased for the evening in Jamaica, but I might change my mind.  I have scheduled the time to start at 3p.m. with cocktails and appetizers.  I am having Jamaican and Canadian/American cuisine.  I have also found someone to make me the traditional Jamaican wedding cake with the rum. So I do plan on doing a cake cutting. We will be having beer and wine and the jamaican rum punch alson with water, pop etc)

As far as music I will be playing Jamaican music (steel drum, bob marley etc) There will be no dancing.  I think the guests will just be socializing the entire time.

I am not sure how I plan on doing the slide show (maybe just on the computer playing over and over again in the house.). Something that I wanted to do but we just don't have the room in the house to do it. Was have everyone arrive at 3, then have a video ceremony. So I would have chairs set up like an acutal ceremony.  Start the video of the wedding and have us walk in exactly as the video. But there is just not enough room in the house to do this.

My guests can wear whatever they want. Its going to be hot in the backyard. I do hope they wear something nice and not jean shorts and tank tops lol. And I am hoping for NO RAIN

I am going to have mine at a park/hall that is dedicated for weddings/receptions. My mom is getting it for free through her work. Its nice because they have a beachy area, but its on a lake. They have a HGUE gazebo type thing that can hold up to 200 people. I am going to do cheap decorations such as tulle, and white lights. I am also using my wedding bouquets for decorations. Possibly set up vases and just stick them in the vases around on different tables.

What did you wear? I am going to wear a second more casual wedding dress. Probably something short or tea length

Did you ask your guests to dress up?  I am not going to ask them to dress up. Casual wear.

HOW did you do a slide show your house - and was it indoor or outdoor? We are doing ours outdoors, and I haven't really come up with a way to show the photos from our wedding yet. We may be hiring a DJ and if we do that, they would have the equipment. If not, we are going to have to figure something else out.

Did you do a cake cutting?  We are going to get a cake, but I dont plan on doing a formal cake cutting. I want to have cake as the dessert, and have it displayed (as another decoration). But we aren't doing anything fancy, so I dont want to do the cake cutting again.

Did you play music? We are going to have music and there will be a designated dance floor. My family loves to boogie! haha

What else did you do besides eat and drink?? We are going to have a BBQ buffet. To drink we will have the typical water and soda, but we are going to get a few kegs of beer, and wine. I am going to informally tell people if they want liquor, they can bring it, but it wont be provided.

What else can you tell me that is creative and have not thought of at all? Vases with water, cand and shells is pretty. And you can put a floating candle on top. That should be relatively inexpensive. I just threw a baby shower and got about 8 BIG vases at our dollar store! They were nice! I think we are actually going to use those for our AHR. If I get any other ideas, I will let you know. :)

I don't know if I will be having one or not. It will depend on how many people actually attend my wedding in Mexico.  But if I do, it will be very casual.  I will not require people to dress up.  It will be more of a party than a wedding reception and I try to have a slide show either on the laptop and then watch the wedding video.  I will provide food (finger type food) and probably beer and wine and then if they want anything else they need to bring it themselves. I don't want to spend a lot of money on this, since my main focus is my mexican wedding! cheesy.gif

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
