I should have listened to FMIL and not even bothered with sending them invites instead of trying not to offend.

Do people really think it's ok to just show up to your wedding with out telling you?thatswck.gif

DW or hometown wedding, that is just strange and inconsiderate! They must think they are really special poeple! LOL!  My motto...no rsvp=not a wedding guest! And only wedding guests get chairs, dinner, programs and favors!(because my resort needed to know our #'s months in advance so they could bring in chairs for the ceremony and so I could lock in the prices for dinner and cocktail hour)

I would love to know what your note or your website said! cheesy.gif

We have set up a website on which I have provided all details and then once a week a do an update. If there are particular people I want to come, I've already talked to them; they know all the details.  You can't really make people rsvp, especially for a DW.  This is the harsh part of DW.  Keep in mind that a lot of people will wait till last minute to book hoping they'll get a 'last minute' sell out.  Some of my invited guests have told me they might 'surprise' us and just show up. I've included a note about element of surprise for a wedding on my website. Politely saying that I have to notify the resort's WC about number of people for my wedding etc etc. (I'm not a fan of surprises for something I'm putting a lot of effort planning).

Don't stress over the RSVP. When people are ready to book they will.  Some people will not even tell you they are not coming.  My wedding is in Sept. I sent out the invites in January.  I didn't even bother with RSVP cards (I thought it was a huge waste of money and stamps). Since I did passport invites, I dedicated a whole page to Reservations and RSVP. Asked to be notified by phone, email, via website or in person by July 1st if they are coming. Gave my self 2 months to order more favours etc.

I Couldnt agree more! I think its crazy to think you can just show up stupid.gif....i know its a lot of money and a DW but doesnt mean less planning has to go in to it. I also understand its really far in advance but because of vacation booking and budget, if you dont think you will come now then you probably wont come at all! After i send out my RSVP reminder card and dont get RSVP's back...i am marking those folks down as a no. I will have a few extra favors but i wont have the seating for the ceremony booked or the dinner so i will have to sort that out but I am hoping there arent too many add ons at the last minute and everyone can just reply to me now. Wishful thinking maybe! wacko.gif

They haven't really booked anything. They just wanted other people to think that they were going. I joke to FI that maybe they are secretly planning on paying for the whole thing as a surprise gift.

Thank you! I'm hoping the light heartedness and hopefully a little chuckle will get people to give us some sort of response just for the effort in sending a reminder :)

I think you should  just give your invitees a call a couple months before the trip. Personal interaction is always nice. The reminder postcard is not very pleasant.
