Well it was the RIU (Jamaica) I was referring to as the ones who upgraded us.

At Dreams were you in the suite tower? We were so we had the private check-in which was totally easy (no line, they sat us down with champagne and cookies..lol) but at first the concierge didn't know it was our honeymoon. We were supposed to have petals in our room and a fruit platter waiting (according to Dreams) but since they didn't know it wasn't there. We got it eventually and everyone - even housekeeping - greeted us as honeymooners from that day out.

Our initial room had 2 beds - yeah that's not hot. She apologized and had someone "make" it a king but the next day they moved us into the king suite directly next door. It was ground level overlooking the ocean and infinity pool, with a ginormous patio. I don't think that was an upgrade though because we booked a suite.

Did you guys get the honeymooners banner on your door and the candles/roses the night of your wedding?

not sure which side we were on - when you're at the front desk, facing it, we were on the left. we got all that champagne and cold towels, and cookies. not sure what qualifies as "private" check in - not sure if we got that.

we got 2 beds, and they told us like 5 times they'd come and make a king - but never did. the next night we got moved to a king bed, and the AC worked in the 2nd room - so we gave up and were happy enough with that room - i don't care too much about rooms when i am on vacation as long as they're clean and the AC works! lol

funny thing - we did get champage and a fruit plate delivered to our room the day before the wedding - lol. they had no idea when our wedding was, and we didn't do a room block - which is why i assume they weren't overly accomodating or upgrade us. we left the day after the wedding, so there was nothing else special with our room. which was no big deal! we wanted to celebrate the honeymoon in Hawaii anyway.

Okay, you were in the other tower. When we got out of the car they told us to follow the hallway to the left and we would see our concierge who would check us in. Well we got lost/confused and ended up back at the front desk, lol, so someone walked us to the right place. I don't know if you ever went to the other side but it's past the spa & over a bridge so we were like where are we?!? Apparently when you are in the suite tower you don't check in at the main desk.

Anyways we didn't have a room block, only like 6 of our guests stayed there. I just asked Will about the candles & stuff and he said Dreams did the swan towel thing and he had to fight for the petals. I guess they stopped doing it because they attract ants, but they said if we didn't let them sit too long we could have them so we did. And, the candles came from him (news to me). He had a few bm's set them up all over and light them. There had to be like 50 candles so that's why we took that extended walk when we got back from the wedding when I was dying to go freshen up....lol Will & the bm's never got credit for that until now. So sweet. :o)

When my dh and I went to Dreams- Los Cabos last year the check in person indicated that if we promised to come back for our honeymoon he would upgrade our room. We got the room right above Oceana and it was great! we did come back and tip him!

Also, we just got back from Vegas and when we checked in we asked if we could be upgraded and they did.

It never hurts to ask...

also, so much of it depends on when you check in and if it is available upon checkin...like 1/2 of my guests got a honeymoon suite...my sisters were so stoked..so were my parents...i was happy they go it but i guess we checked in when alot of people were checking out so they put us in the best available room they had upon checkin.

When we were looking at St. Thomas, I read a lot of reviews from people saying to tell everyone possible that you are on your honeymoon/just got married. Restaurants gave newlywed/honeymooners free desserts, complimentary drinks, room upgrades, shops gave free little gifts, etc....

I think it's pretty common almost everywhere, that if you broadcast your newlywed status frequently, you'll get some freebies from someone! :)

Even if your hubby doesn't want to wear a "Couples" type shirt (mine almost died when I showed him the free wedding shirt I got from Vista Print ... I am forbidden from wearing it in public ... lol) but if YOU wear a "Bride" shirt, that should do the trick as well!!

You can also get a free planning DVD off the Disney Parks page. I haven't watched mine yet, but it came in the mail really fast. We are going in a few years once my FIs nephews & neices are old enough.
Thanks, but my TA is Tammy!! :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
