Need some advice - Destination wedding during hurricane season?

Yep I also suggest planning it around hurricane season if at all possible. You see how much stress our brides went through with Dean. Everything will probably be fine but if not, it's an extra burden you don't need.

I had to choose a date during hurricane season because it was the best time to take time off work, and for family and friends to attend. I just made sure I found a date that wasn't during rainy season or peak hurricane season.

June & July look pretty safe to me. I also think it helps that it's the beginning of hurricane season, so the chances that a storm has already blown through & messed places up is not as likely.

Travel and Leisure just had an article about Caribbean travel during hurricane season. I think you can help yourself by looking at historical data for your location (Aug-Oct are generally worse for Caribbean, but in different part of the Caribbean different times have better/worse odds). You still have to recognize that no matter what you are taking a risk, there are no guarantees so trip insurance is a must. I guess you have to ask yourself what your threshold for risk is in this situation.

Personally, we went to the Caribbean last year during September and we're having our wedding there in late October this year. Historically August is the worst month for the BVI, and for us there is a significant difference in cost to go at this tail end of low season so it's worth the risk to have our wedding in the BVI.

Bla bla bla, what does this mean to you?? Well, to us, we pay $1400 for a 1 way ticket from Cancun to Atlanta to escape the region when we must because we are threatened by a category 5 hurricane... If that ain't a cost of doing business, then I don't know what is....(if you think this chit chat is hype, then hit this blog post for the real deal holyfield)

Just be aware, as a bride planning a wedding during hurricane season, regardless of any other details or thoughts, you are taking a risk. As with any risk, you are considering potential loss. Wanna know about potential loss? Just ask my Aug 21 wedding client who had their wedding totally canceled.... It is total HELL trying to get monies back from travel agencies...from hotels, and from vendors...

Risk a wedding during hurricane season....we ask that you completely understand the definition of risk and the implications of that risk outlined in your contract.
