Anyone going the fake cake route?

Recommended Posts

If so, where are you getting it from and how are you transporting it?

Sadly my resort has cakes that..... let's just say I can do a better job :( lol

I'm from NY/NJ and cakes are like important as our wedding dresses...lol

So I'm doing the next best thing...fake! It doesn't cost that much, will look beautiful in pics, they leave a hidden slice behind so that you may insert a piece of cake for the cake cutting ceremony and either have the resorts cake in the back to serve.... or I'm thinking of just going with the desert table that is all ready included in the menu, since cake usually always goes to waste :(

I'm interested in knowing what you ladies think?

I'm getting my cake from  www.cakesconfidential.com Burgundy_and_Ivory_Fake_Wedding_Cake__17894_zoom.jpg instead of the flower I want a large pencil starfish, the fondant will be a pearlized teal and the ribbon color will be coral.

They are chaging me $235 for it.... :)

My cake is being design I just used that pic as an example, but thanks for the tip... I don't want to go the diy route though. The resort is charging $500+ for a vanilla cake with vanilla frosting...horrible, either way I won't be pleased.

OMG! is this what they are charging for cake???? I really need to start looking at the prices and lists they sent me to start breaking all these things out!!! CRAZY! i thought cake was included? Or is this because you asked for a bigger cake to accomodate your large # of guests?

Janet look at your excel sheet!! lol, even though I am having 100 guests, $5/a slice for vanilla cake or $8/a slice for more corny decorations!! no thanks! I was really disapointed with the price and the pictures of what they offered as a "wedding cake".

I think the cake is included only if you go with a Package.

how will you get it there?  It's covered in fondant so that would get messed up in a suitcase.  It will also take up a lot of space.  With airlines charging by the bag, space is precious.

What about replacing the cake cutting tradition with something else inspired by the location of your DW?

Well the baker I'm purchasing it from will have each tier (3) one smaller than the other boxed separately they also roll the fondant on styrofoam days prior to my scheduled pick up so it will be dry and it won't get messed up, I will carry it in a gift bag and just let the TA know at check in, I've already checked with my airline it's allowed, it's not consider food and each box will be small/separate enough to be able to pass through security.

Hard task.... don't wanna think about all I'll be carrying my dress included but I will have dear FH helping me with it all.... A price I will pay to have it done my way.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
