If you've been to Cancun

Recommended Posts

could you help me? I'm working on my welcome letter and of course am trying to cut & paste from other BDW members, haha! But all of the ones I'm looking at are for Cabo. I want to put information about getting through customs and the airport in cancun, but am not sure if its setup exactly the same. Can anyone advise?

Hi, I've been to Cancun lots and can tell you that once you get off the plane you will have to clear customs and get your luggage. Once you do, you need to go towards the exit and there is a stop light there that you have to push a button. If it is green you can go, but if it is red, they search your luggage. I have never gotten red - YET......then you exit to meet your transportation. PLEASE tell your guests to IGNORE the people there that will tell them "free ride" and whatever because there are SOO many timeshare people in the airport. Who did you book with?

Did your TA tell you who they booked through and the name of the shuttle company? HAHA the timeshare people are insane. Anytime I have been to Cancun they wouldnt leave us alone, so I said I won my trip and couldnt afford to be there if I didnt and man they ran away from me LOL :)

Thats funny!! Maybe I'll use that line! I haven't gotten the information yet on our shuttle, she said we'd get everything about 3 weeks before we travel so, I'm just waiting, tap, tap, tap.....

But what you gave me helps. I just want to give people a basic idea of what to expect.

Where are you getting married in cancun?

I have to agree since during my recent visit to Cancun, I experienced the same thing.

Tell your guests that once they get out of the sliding doors (after customs), they should proceed outside to your shuttle bus and just ignore those guys (they are all wearing the same polo shirts) selling everything in the world. It would also help if you can get the parking number of your shuttle bus so you can go directly to that parking spot. All shuttle bus picking up at the airport are assigned a number to park and wait for their passengers.

You don't have to make any excuses, just keep walking and ignore them.

We all just walked right past the time share people too. Just walk with a purpose and talk to each other and it's fine.

Also, as a side note my FI got the dreaded red light and it was fine. I had images of them tearing the luggage apart and having to repack in the middle of the Cancun airport. All they did was open up the suitcases and poke through a bit. It was absolutely nothing to stress about.

Just another note, don't let anyone touch your luggage unless you're willing to tip them!! (And if you don't tip them enough they won't be afraid to let you know!)

And like everyone else has already said, just keep walking until you get outside and to your representative. Otherwise you'll get stuck listening to the whole timeshare speel.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
