haha, i just realized you posted on a gran caribe real post before and i asked what resort you were getting married at! Anyway, who's you wc? i ned to find out for sure if thats what i need to do bc it'll change alot of my plans...

Yeya99, I went back through and read your post, but it does not say anything about having to be legally married BEFORE doing the religious ceremony in the chapel. My WC has not been any help in answering this questions either. Do you remember if you had to show any proof of being legally married before the ceremony at the chapel?

Nadennec,  to tell you the truth they never  asked for any thing as far as legal documentation. They never asked to see our marriage license either.  What they want to see is just your letter from the church stating that you have taken the premarital classes and that you have permission to marry along with all your other proof of all your catholic sacrament certificates.  You must know that your catholic ceremony is not legaly binding so its not recognized by the Mexican or US goverment because its only a religious ceremony.So you must either get your marriage license and get  legally married in  the US before or after your catholic wedding or get legally married in Mexico, Legal marriages in Mexico are recognized in the US.

I was never asked if we were legally married either or to see my marriage certificate....and i did ask my WC if she needed it when we met with her and she said no.........so i think it's safe to say that you dont need to be......I think most people just to do it before so that they can get it over and done with......

I do have all my paperwork from my church allowing us to get married, I was just concerned if we had to get legally married before the catholic ceremony. We were just planning on doing it when we got home because FI wanted the first ceremony to be the chyrch one. So, i think we should be good to go! Thanks for both of yalls advise!

We are planning to have a catholic wedding here in November 2011.  However, I'm not catholic and therefore cannot get any sacrament certificates.  I have talked to Patty (supervisor) and Claudy and all they told me I needed was the letter from the priest back home allowing us to get married in the catholic church.  Is it vital to get these sacrament certificates?  This is the first I've heard about it!

As far as I know, at least one of you )you or FI) needed to be catholic. The letter from your preist back home is for him to confirm you completed the process to be married in a catholic church. The sacramental certificates are part of this process, along with other thing. I would definitely get the letter asap, and submit it to the church in Cancun to see what they say.

Question for those who are and have gotten married in the Chapel...did yall have a bridal party, and if so what kind of shoes did you and everyone else where. With a destination wedding you automaticall think barefoot or flip flops, ut I dont know if its that appropriate with the ceremony since its still in  "church". Any advice?
