1hr hors d'ouevres reception question

Recommended Posts

Did any of you have the $25/person 1hr reception?  I am just curious what the hot/cold hors d'ouevres consisted of?  Were you please, displeased or indifferent?  I'm trying to make reception decisions.  My ceremony is at 4pm and I would like to do a small reception, dinner at one of the restaurants and then Liquid lounge but not sure if this would be too hum drum till 11pm when club is turned over to adults.

Thanks for your help!

We pretty much did the same thing except the 30 minute reception afterwards.  The timing worked out fine.  We got married on a Wednesday and after dinner, had drinks and went to the chocolate buffet.  The hors d'ourves I can tell you pretty much were not touched (we only had the cold ones which are the same ones you get with the one hour plus some hot ones) because they were so bad.  I've heard these can vary though at different resorts and during different seasons.  I'll be honest with you though, in all, we didn't care for most of the food in the resort.  We come from a city that has a lot of really good restaurants and is featured on food shows all the time so we are a little spoiled.  The weather more than made up for it though :)

We're up to about 30 so that is why Im  concerned - I want it to be fun but its gonna get quite pricey to pay for a reception for all those people.....

  • 1 month later...

We are planning on doing the one hour private reception. The main reason we chose the 1 hour over the 30 min is just to make sure we have enough time to do first dance....father/daughter dance...mother/son dance and have our cake/champagne toast....and I didn't want to feel rushed at all. I really don't care too much about the hors d'ouevres ....although now that I'm thinking about it, those stupid hors d'ouevres will probably almost be our lunch, lol...since our wedding is at 11am and then after the 1 hr reception we leave the property with Tropical Imaging for pics. So we won't eat again until dinner that night. Guess I need to make sure I order a great breakfast from room service, lol.

Nicole, Me and you are in the same shoes. I am having approx 36 guest and it will cost me over $3,000 to have a private sit down dinner!!! So I think I am going to go with the one hour cocktail. I spoke with my TA and she is trying to find out what it will cost for me to add more time and the choices to add on more cocktails. I will let you know what I find out. Also where is Club Liquid Beaches Negril or Sandy Bay?

We had the 1 hour cocktail....and it was perfect!  Our group actually ended up staying out there for a lot longer than one hour.  I didn't think a sit down dinner would have made sense especially since we did that the night before with our welcome/rehersal dinner.

Thanks Tenny for that info on the 1 hour. I am feeling the same way since we are having a welcome dinner the night before why have another sit down the next night. Plus the additional cost cool.gif!  How was the food during the cocktail hour? What did they serve? Did you just do the one table or how many tables did you have? I was told I can have service for 2 hours for $12 more person. Would you recommend this? Sorry for all the requestions...

We had 8 tables, and we didn't have any additional decorations.  I heard the food was great.  I know the cake was amazing.  Make sure you get a burger or something to hold you before you get your make-up done.  We paid the extra amount for the hour cocktail and it was totaly worth it to us.  After the reception we (the younger people) all changed and went to Margaritaville to party some more, I know there is one in Negril too if you are interested.   We did hire the DJ...he used our ipod some of the time and his own music the rest of the time (This is because we need to play kompa).  Let me know if you have any other questions.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
