Why did you choose the Dominican Republic?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I am just starting to do some very general planning and I think I've decided on the Dominican, but I'm not 100% sure. So I was wondering, why did you choose the Domincan? What's good about it versus the other options, like Mexico or Aruba or others? From my research so far, it looks like the Dominican may be the easiest place to get married in terms of requirements. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

I'm Dominican, that was a reason :) but besides that, I thought the flight was pretty short in comparison to other carribean islands, I feel like you get more bang for your buck in DR, all-inclusive is a great plus!! some islands don't have all inclusive options.

I've also have been to several DW in DR and it's simply beautiful and I also visited the resort that I'm have my wedding at and it's just completely for us, the scenery, the beaches, the weather, the staff... I love it all.

You don't have to stay in the island for a minimum period of time but you do need to have the appropriate paper work in order to have a valid marriage in the DR. I thought it was going to be too much of a hassle and its pretty pricey so I'm going to get married at home right before we go and just have a symbolic ceremony in DR.

I kept on going back and forth between Punta Cana and Playa del Carmen in MX... a little too much and it was driving me crazy actually lol.  Just keep in mind whats important to you and your Fiance, what you want on your day.  We wanted something intimate, not a huge resort.. I kept on going back and forth between the 2 resorts, so we finally decided on Majestic Elegance because of the design/layout and everything it comes with.. and we're getting married at a restaurant on the beach in Punta Cana that does weddings so it will be intimate versus having a wedding at the resort with onlookers if we were to get married on the beach.

We're getting married here a couple of days before we go to DR so we'll have a symbolic ceremony, it seems that a lot of people do it this way.. its a lot easier and it will be as simple as possible because our wedding day will be in Dominican.

I wanted a destination wedding, so we figured the Caribbean would be perfect, not too far for travelers. As for choosing DR, we originally were looking at Costa Rica, but then after doing  research there, it was pretty complicated to get married in the rainforest as our guests would have had to charter a flight from Santiago or drive many hours to our resort.

Then after consideration, we also have family living in South America and Europe who would be coming, but they would have had to apply for visas to go to Mexico/Puerto Rico.... Also I figured those countries were too common of a destination, wanted something different. We've visited DR many times and loved it, we also knew very few of our family/friends have been there, so this would be perfect, plus our families don't need to get visas since it isn't part of the US. So it worked out in the end and it's easier for everyone.

We chose the Dominican Republic because it offered a good amount of flight options for all our guests. Unlike some islands we donâ€t have to deal with a ferry or puddle jumper. Additionally for the cost I felt like we are getting a lot more than other places Iâ€ve been and researched.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
