New Bride - May 2011 - Mexico - everything else is ?????

Hello!! I'm kind of in a whirlwind here! I just got engaged and we decided to waste no time and get married this May, destination wedding style!! Our original date was April in St. Lucia, but the longer I go being undecided about the resort and location, the further back I'm going to have to push the wedding! Well no more pushing I hope.

I've been lurking around on this site and there is just so much information it is amazing. I ended up switching the destination to the riviera maya because it's cheaper to fly to mexico than to the virgin islands, or elsewhere. Although it looks like it may just be my FI and I going and no family, so that might not matter as much now!

The only thing that we have for sure right now are my dress, our wedding bands!! I have it narrowed down to a few photographers, and several resorts (Dreams Tulum, Iberostar Grand Hotel Paraiso, excellence playa mujeres, riu, azul sensatori, .....) everytime i get it narrowed down to two I read another thread and find another one to add to the list!!

I'm a mess! But I'm having a ball planning this wedding, after all. It is my dream wedding!! And I'm marrying the love of my life!!

Nice meeting you all and Happy Planning to everyone!

Hi Shawna, and welcome!  You certainly are wasting no time with getting married.  This site is great for every aspect you may ever be interested in regarding destination weddings!!  Even if it is just you and your FI, you'll definitely want to narrow down your resort and then reach out to them to see what dates they have available.  I know when we were setting a date last July, we actually changed it due to what dates were left at the resort we wanted.  So, if you want a certain date in May, check with the resorts on your list to see if they have the time available and maybe that will help you decide on where you want to stay/have the wedding.

Enjoy and happy planning!

Congrats!  Wow you guys are going quickly!  I found that once the location was picked things became easier.  I would make a list of your top things you are looking for in a resort, and hopefully you can narrow it down that way.  Also, look at tons of pictures.  Thats what helped us make our decision!  Good luck, and happy planning!

Thanks all! I'm really excited now, it's happening so fast and just starting to feel real!

We finally decided on a location, its Secrets Maroma Beach Riviera Cancun. I looked at tons of pictures as was suggested and this one just seemed right. I narrowed it down to a few days and just looked for a resort that had wedding availabilities at those times. Worked great and now I feel so much better that its booked!!!

Kimbos - Our wedding date is May 22, maybe we'll see you there!!

I am booked at Dreams Tulum for June 11, 2011.   We had to book almost a year in advance to get the date we wanted...hope you don't run into any problems in that area.  I would recommend contacting the resorts you're interested and see what dates they have available in May...that might help you make a decision.

Originally we thought we would only have a few guests willing to fly to Mexico for our wedding, but so far we have 20 booked and paid for--it was quite a surprise.  Congratulations and Happy planning.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
