Hey, it's April! That means we're just about at the one year mark! I'm starting to work on a ton of DIY projects- well, just the design portion. Obviously won't be able to do a lot of printing until we have a better idea of a guest count. I think I may have too many projects planned at this point... When are y'all sending invitations? I'm thinking late summer/early fall?

Hi Girls! I am planning a Destination wedding in Jamaica in April 2012...although we cannot book anything yet because they don't have rates/prices available this soon so we are patiently waiting another month or so...then we can FINALLY send out save the dates/invites and let everyone know that a date has been confirmed!!

The decision between staying here and having a big traditional wedding or going away to have a destination wedding came quickly to us! Although every girl has dreams of having a big fairy tale wedding, I decided that packing everyone up and heading to Jamaica was the way to go! My brother had a destination wedding in Mexico and it was AMAZING. So stress free and all of the guests had a blast! Plus it is so much cheaper :)  Although there are some things that I feel we are missing out on by going away...

Hey Laura! Congrats on having a confirmed date! Where in Jamaica are you getting married? We looked into Jamaica but haven't made a decision yet. We are now hooked on Bahamas or Punta Cana. It's so scary to think I might book my wedding somewhere I have never been! lol But like you I knew right away I didn't want a big wedding, a small wedding on a tropical island IS my fairy tale! lol Although most of my family aren't thrilled with the idea.  I can't wait for some flight prices to come out because I think that would really help me make my decision btw Bahamas or punta cana. I really want to keep the prices as low as I can. Best of luck with the rest of your planning!!

Hi Stacy! We decided on Ocho Rios Jamaica...we've never been (so I am also very nervous) but i've heard its absolutely beautiful!! Such a hard decision because not only do you want it to be perfect for your wedding but you are also responsible for picking a destination that all of your guests will enjoy, especially if they are spending all of that money!! I have been to Punta Cana before, 3 years ago and it was very nice, the beaches are absolutely beautiful! BUT I've heard that getting married in the Dominican Republic is difficult....I don't know how much truth there is to this but its just what i've heard...the Bahamas would be so amazing to get married at!!! Either way, both of those destinations would be a perfect setting for a wedding! When are you planning on having your wedding?

So I picked out a date finally..and I'm having a hard time knowing if i should keep it (I already sent in and got a confirmed spot at 5pm) or change it. Originally I wanted April 8th but then realized that's Easter..so then I looked at April 13th but that's friday the thirteenth and I'm not too supersticious but i am still not cool with that lol...so I submitted April 20th..and got it locked in! My little brother just pointed out to me that it will be 4/20 and now I'm not sure if I should change the date or I am just thinking about it too hard! stupid.gif

I ended up picking Moon palace in cancun bc they have an awesome wedding package! Also wondering if any of you ladies could give me some ideas as to what you picked for your save the dates?

Thanks girls!

Congrats on picking a date! Did you reserve it directly with the resort before booking any travel packages? I would love to confirm my date but i'm afraid that if I reserve it with the resort then go to book with a travel agent and its way cheaper for the week after that i'm stuck with that date now. How is everyone else doing it?? Waiting until they have their all inclusive package booked then confirming the date with the resort??

Also, does anyone know what time slot is the best?? I was think 4:00pm but i'm wondering if the 5:00pm time is better...

In terms of "save the dates" we decided that we will send out our actual invitations about 8 months prior along with all of the travel information, and then closer to the date we will send out little reminders with travel brochures. (I guess thats kind of backwards lol)

How exciting on picking the dates ladies!! I booked 4/7/12 and didn't realize that the next day is Easter. No biggie. We can have an Easter egg hunt on the beach! Lol jk. I booked my date straight through the hotel so everyone will get their room through the travel agent, airfare doesn't come out until 10 months before so bookings will be done separate. If guests want to book through an agent they can. Can't wait!

I have heard a lot of good things about Ochos Rios! We stayed at the RIU in Montego Bay when we were in Jamaica and it was not what we had in mind for a wedding. haha It was HUGE and such a party place. I really wish our TA had sent us to Negril or Ochos Rios but what can you do. haha So we have a new TA and they recommended Punta Cana.  From the little investigating I've done it doesn't seem too hard to get married there. Is there anything in particular you can think of that turned you off? Just want to make sure I'm not missing something.  My biggest concern was the staff not speaking enough English. I know what you mean with the pressure. I just want to pick the nicest resort, in the nicest location, with a good price point! Is that too much to ask? Like I said we haven't decided on a location so I might change my mind 5 more times before I commit! lol

Like everyone else I have changed my date like three or four times lol I really wanted April 7th because that is the date we got engaged! But I was worried that prices would be too high with that being Easter weekend.  Then I tried for the other April dates like you Sdamian.  I think I'm now going to go with May but I won't worry too much about the dates. You can't make everyone happy. 4/20 is better than 4/13 in my book haha Plus your fiancé should always remember your wedding date if it's 4/20 lol Best of luck to everyone!! ~Stacy

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
