GM Shirt colour for Purple BM dresses?

Recommended Posts

I am having a lot of difficulty trying to come up with what the groom and groomsmen will be wearing. My BM dresses are purple (bright deep purple) and originally I thought I would have the groom wear a white button shirt with khaki pants, and the GM wear purple shirts (matching the type of G shirt with the same purple colour as the BM) and khaki pants. No ties as we wanted fairly casual.

Then I saw some pics (and also some protests from the groomsmen about wearing a purple shirt) and I didn't likethe look. I thought maybe a lighter purple. Then I thought a lighter purple with a deep purple tie, even though I originally didn't want ties. Then I thought the groom could wear the purple and the GM wear white!

I just want something to go together with everything. I thought maybe the groom and groomsmen (2) could wear the same thing, but I really wanted the groom to stand out and be a little different.

I don't know!! I'm feeling stressed and not sure what way to go!! What can I do? My sister suggested black shirts for the GM, but I think that would be too dark. What about they all wear khaki pants and white shirt for groom and grey shirts for the GM (or is that too drab)?

For thinking having a beach wedding was the simple way to go, I was wrong! Please help with my lack of colour talent!

Hey Sarah,

We also have been going around and around about this same issue.  Our BM's are wearing bright deep purple dresses (Alfred Angelo 7122 you can google it and see the purple color and the sash will be ivory).  My dress is also ivory. Since the BM's dresses have ivory sash on them our GM will be wearing ivory shirts with khaki colored pants as well as the groom.  To stand out the groom will wear a suite jacket (Khaki color) for pictures and wedding ceremony.  I hope this helps.

Thanks. I am still having difficulty! I think since we don't want to do suits or ties, we will have groom and our two boys (ages 4 and 10 months) wear white button shirts and khaki pants and the 2 groomsmen will wear dark grey (almost metallic) shirts? What do you think? Or is that too dark for a beach?

Im so stumped, I'm considering changing my bridesmaid colour. Well, not quite!

OMG - ditto here on the stress and color problems.  Deep purple BM dress and I wanted the GM to wear a deep purple button-down; which let me tell you has been hell to find so far!  I am thinking groom - white shirt and BM lilac as I have actually been able to find this color but I think it will look off balance.

Sarah0322 - you said you saw pics of BM in purple and didnt like it - could you refer me to those pics as I am interested to see some.  Gap online had a purple button down but I prefer the linen type look.  I also found some on Zappos but none have been "the one".

AAAAGGGHHHH!

Hi,

My bridesmaid dresses have a black sash, so I am thinking black shirts for the groomsmen now. Or, maybe the groom can wear a linen jacket with a white shirt and the grooms men can wear white shirts as well. Shirts tucked in or out? If groom is wearing a jacket, then obviously tucked in. My two sons are in it as well, and I have short sleeved white shirts for them (ages 4 and 10 months), so I thought to match their dad, he would wear a short sleeve shirt as well, but he doesn't want to. So do you think it would still look okay if the kids wore short sleeve and the adult men wore long sleeve?

Yes, I'm so indecisive!

My bridesmaid dresses are plum & the groomsmen will be wearing a white button down long sleeved shirt, untucked, with the sleeves rolled up.  I want to try to find a shirt that is straight across the bottom for them.  My fiance will wear a light colored suit with a white shirt underneath with no tie.  I think it will look fine if the kids wear a short sleeved shirt!

If your willing to get a little spunky, orange and purple look AWESOME together!

I definately agree that the boys have been the hardest to dress! My girls are in orange...but it's an off orange and there is no way I'll be able to find a shirt in the same color. Originally I figured I'd put the groom in Khaki pants/shorts and a white shirt with rolled up sleeves and a boutonier (spelling? lol) and the groomsmen with the same thing minus the bout so they were slightly different. To my suprise, the groom HATES the look. I was so disapointed to say the least, especially after I got the " I don't care what I wear, I'll wear whatever you put me in"...and now I'm getting lip from all of them haha - no pants, they don't like the khaki blah blah blah...but they'll wear white suits which wont work because my dress is ivory, they will all stick out like sore thumbs.  At this point we're somewhat agreeing on black shorts (im insisting on pinstrip to soften the look a bit), and a white shirt with rolled up sleeves and for the GM blue shirts and black shorts. Just struggling to decide whether the black is going to look okay...it's not exactly in our color theme lol.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
