Food at the Majestic Colonial?

Recommended Posts

Hello to all Past Colonial Brides!!

How's the food at the different buffet/restaurants at the Majestic Colonial? I've heard mixed reviews. I'm getting married at the Colonial, 4 p.m. Gazebo wedding, May 21, 2011. I'm soo excited!! But I just want to be prepared if the food isn't that great.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciate :)

Thanks!

I thought the food was great!  I found that they had lots to choose from and the ala carte restaurants you don't need to make reservations at except for two of them.  Depending on the time of day...morning buffets offered crepes, bagels, sandwiches, toast, french toast, omelettes, eggs, yogurt, cereal, fruit, shakes, pastries, bacon....lunch buffets offered paninis, pizza, french fries, hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken burgers, calamari, rice, chicken, cheeses, fruit.  I didn't go to the buffets much at dinner time.....

Everyone in my group really enjoyed the food at the Majestic Colonial.  We ate at the buffet the first night and it was very good with lots of selection.  Our server Alfredo was awesome!  Someone told him that we were getting married and he brought the band over and the played for us and danced... it was so much fun.  Breakfast was also really good with tons of selection, as another bride above mentioned.

I didn't realize that the beachfront restaurant turned into two restaurants at night -- the Steakhouse (specializing in steak) and Tres Carabelas (specializing in seafood).  We ate there like 3 times I think, lol.  Tres Carabelas had this grilled lobster that everyone kept going back for.   And then we had our rehearsal dinner there and the staff let us order from either menu, so it was perfect.  I didn't get a chance to try all of the a la carte restaurants because we had the wedding also and our romantic dinner, but we did try the Mexican one and I thoroughly enjoyed the nachos and burrito.... mmmm.  Some friends tried the Japanese and said it was really good.

Of lesser fame (but great popularity!) was La Bodeguita -- this is the fast food joint located by the disco that served up french fries, onion rings and chicken wings late at night.  We ended up there a few nights after dancing it up at the disco.  What a blast!   Nothing beats some fast food and cerveza at 2am, haha.

Overall, we had a great time and the food was wonderful.  No idea about the Elegance, but I don't think you can eat there.

  • 1 month later...

My mother and a group of her friends were at the Colonial last year. They found the food to be very good. I heard the Japanese is great and that the buffet is very good.

When I'm in the DR or Cuba I always try to remember that this is not Canada and you can't expect everything to taste the same or be prepared in the same way as "home."

I got married Jan/11 and 29 people from my group got sick from the resort's food. 1 was hospitalized for the last 3 days of our stay and 2 other guests needed antibiotic needles. It was pretty serious and many of our guests took 1-2 weeks to recover after returning home. Pepto and immodium did not help! I've heard of other large groups getting sick around that time as well so I know there has been concern about food prep/handling. I will say that there is plenty of food to choose from and you should be able to find something you like. I did however expect better food from the resort and I'm not a picky eater at all. In fact, I one of the few who didn't get sick. My hushand, however, was pretty sick immediately after our wedding. He lost 12 pounds during the trip!

Things you definitely should try- awesome hamburgers and paella by the beach.

Good luck and hopefully they fixed whatever the problem is.

That is so terrible that so many of your group were sick. Did you put in a complaint directly with the hotel manager? I think it is important that they know just how many visitors were sick and just how sick they were! Yikes, that is not good for business!!!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
