Bridal Party Etiquette

Recommended Posts

I've heard a few different things, but my FIL said that proper etiquette for a destination wedding is that you pay for your bridal party to travel. We haven't decided what we're going to do for sure yet. At first I was planning on just taking them to do something exciting like zip lining while we're in Jamaica, but now my FI and I don't know if we should pay for their air fair as well

Who all is paying for their bridal party's airline ticket, or their stay at the resort? What exactly is proper destination wedding etiquette for this situation?

I thought it seemed excesive as well. And not that this is the reason why but some of the people in our bridal party (my sister and by FI brother) are very wealthy and would undoubtably try to refuse us if we said we were going to pay for any part of their trip.

I know some people around here have paid for some or all of the travel expenses or some of the reservation or deposit, and more power to them! Not in our budget, unfortunately.

We'll be paying for bridal party attire, gifts, specialty restaurant dinner one night and a cabana rental at one of the ports during the cruise. That's about all our budget can handle!

We paid for attire and a gift for each of our BM and GM plus some little things along the way.  I would never pay for their travel unless it was a dire situation. Can you imagine the cost! My wedding party knew it was a DW and had paid deposits before we even asked them to be in our wedding.  That way no one felt like they had to come(had they agreed to be in the wedding before knowing it was a DW) if they couldn't for financial reasons.

We didn't pay for any of our guests' travel expenses.  I did pay for my bridal party hair/makeup and got gifts for everyone who was in our wedding (including parents).  If I could afford to pay for everyone, I'm sure it would have been greatly appreciated but it would have turned into thousands upon thousands of dollars if you take airfare and hotel for multiple couples.  I don't think anyone expects you to do so and if they do, I would make it very clear what YOU are paying for and what THEY are paying for so there is no confusion.

Paying for everyones air fare is just a little excessive!! I paid for my MOH and her husbands deposit to help her out because they are both in school and are scrapping money just to get to Jamaica. But we're just going to do an excursion with everyone and maybe buy them a little souviner!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
