How soon to start?

I think we are both going to cut out drinking when we switch over to TTC. After all, his health is just as important and I want to make sure those are strong, healthy swimmers! We don't normally drink a lot, but we probably will over the course of our wedding celebrations.

We'd like to wait a year and get used to the new roles and establish a routine, make sure he finishes school, and we both have relatively stable jobs. Life happens while you're making other plans though, so we're open to whatever. God knows what's best and what we can handle v. what we can't. I'd love the idea of a year's hiatus before we get the ball rolling, lol.

I'm getting married in May 2011, and my FI and I are planning to start TTC right after the wedding.  We have been talking about having a baby for the last few months, and we're very excited to become parents.  I met with my OB/GYN in December for my yearly check-up, and she told me to start taking a pre-natal vitamin at least 3 months before I planned to stop taking the BC pill.  I've taken about a months worth of pre-natals already, and I'm planning to go off BC right after the wedding.  I'm hoping that we won't have any complications, because I've been on the pill since I was 15 (I'm now 25).

My doctor did say that it is a common misconception that it takes everyone several months after going off the pill to have your cycle regulate.  She said that she has had many patients that went off of BC one month and were pregnant the next.  That's why we're waiting until after the wedding for me to stop taking BC.  Best of luck to everyone!!

Sarah, it's interesting with all that you said above.  I have talked to my OB/GYN as well, and she said a lot of what your doctor said.  One of the differences was that she said as long as I was taking the folic acid a month in advance, things should be okay.  Luckily my multi-vitamin has 125% of what I need, so I'm covered there.  But my doctor did say the same thing about making sure we are protected if we want to wait a couple of months because it could happen right away.

That happened to my MOH, the week after she went off it, she actually got pregnant...

I'd like to echo what ErinB said about temping, reading Taking Charge of Your Fertility and signing up for free to fertilityfriend.com

DH and I have been married just over two years, and have been TTC for 7 months.  I went off the pill at the beginning of August (after 11 years), and have only ovulated 3 times (thanks to tracking my fertile signs as learned by reading TCOYF).  I've been had blood work and a pelvic ultrasound done to rule out hypothyroidism and polycysitic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) which can both cause irregularly long cycles.  My first cycle off the pill was 60days long, the second was 79days long, and I'm currently on my third and on cycle day 54 and waiting to find out if this cycle will result in a BFP or AF.

When I got married, I started taking prenatals for the folic acid, and continued living a healthy lifestyle (no smoking, drugs, only casual drinking, and continued to exercise).  Then last summer at 1.5years into marriage (11 years in to our relationship, and 4 years into living together) we decided after months of discussions that I would stop the pill because we were as ready as we were ever going to be.  I booked an appointment with my GP who did a pre-TTC consult and we discussed going off the pill, what my options would be once I was pregnant interms of prenatal care, and nutrition etc.

As far as going off the pill, my doctor told me that it used to be common for physicians to recommend waiting three months after going off the pill before TTC, but that was when the hormone dosages in the pill was much higher.  She recommend we avoid getting pregnant the first month off because it makes it harder to date the pregnancy  but that with ultrasounds its not the end of the world, they just have to wait till the baby is visible on an ultrasound to date the pregnancy.

With all that said, it can take some people 1 month to get pregnant, and other longer.  The standard percentage is that 80% of healthy couples will get pregnant within the first year.

Good luck to you all on your upcoming weddings and TTC journeys.

I was told that you are the most fertile the first 3 months after the pill and then goes down a bit from there.  I just went off the pill 2 weeks ago so I'm hoping that fertility is true!  I'm 38 so hoping there are still some eggs left.  :-)  I also bought the ovulation testers because if your not ovulating, then no chance you can have a baby - plus it narrows down your optimal time for you.

Good luck everyone!!!

That's interesting, I wonder if the same is true for my Mirena too. I'll have to look into getting some testers too, it'd be nice to know at least a general time frame of when you are most likely to conceive. I just don't want to have it not happen right away and become obsessive over when I'm ovulating and 'plan' out our sex life based on that. Good luck to you!

I am not sure what is going to happen. Like African Venus mentioned, whenever God decide for us to have a little one, that is when it's going to happen. As far as my assumption, I think my future Hubby will get me as soon as he gets a chance. I see how he interacts with his friends children LOL... Sooo I will be ready for whatever.

Someone told me to take some prenatal vitamins because they are better than regular vitamins. So I have been taking them not only to ensure I have the right amount of nutrient in my body, but when that time comes, my body will be ready. One thing I know I can do a little more now is exercising more often. LOL....

Great topic, ladies!

I forgot to mentioned the vitamins- "Finest Prenatal Complete" I take one per day. Sometimes during breakfast or before bed.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
