How soon to start?

Hello ladies,

Since this is a new section that I just noticed I thought I would start by asking how long people are planning to wait before starting to play the baby making game?

Also, is anyone planning on making any changes before they attempt to conceive? Changing medications, diet, etc.

Ooooo nooooo babies for us any time in the next 7ish years. For sure, none for the next five years. I'm 25 now, 26 when we get married, and we aren't ready to bring a lil Vietnamebrew into the world, yet. We need time to be selfish and enjoy being newlyweds first. We also need to establish fulfilling careers and a good chunk of cash before we feel we could responsibly bring a baby into this world. Some people find it selfish to not want children right now, but honestly... I need to be selfish before I can be selfless. Once you have kids, you take the back-burner and that baby should be everything. I know far too many people that have kids and still want to be the wild partying kid.

When we finally do decide to have kids, I'll probably get off the depo with the warning to hubby that it could take a year after that to conceive.

For me it's a tough one...  I want to basically do it right away, because FI is 44....  He doesn't want to right away though.  We also need to make some changes to our house because it's only three bedrooms, and with his two children already, there is no room...  But, we've also talked about that.

I plan to continue my diet I have started a few months ago.  I was recently put on blood pressure medication, and would really like to take care of that...  (I'm only 27).  So, I need to keep up the work so I can try to get off the BP meds.

I'm trying to get FI used to the fact that I would like to start trying a few months after we're married. I figure it probably won't happen for at least a few more months after that. But I will be 33 this year, and think it will be healthier to get started soon if we want to try for 2.

I have hypothyroid, and I've heard that it can make conceiving difficult.

My FI and i already have a 9 month old daughter. We're getting married January 2012 and want to start trying for our second in the spring/summer. We want our kids to be relatively close in age, plus we already have one so it's not like we'll ever truely relax again. Might as well have another!

Mocha - I have a friend who has the hypothyroid, and she had mentioned the same thing on it being more difficult to conceive.  How is FI on the whole topic?  Obviously not right there with you if you are trying to get him used to the idea!!    With the age, I completely understand!  It's not as though you are old by any means, but if you want more than one, you definitely don't want to waste too much time!

Liz - I like how you put that regarding the never going to truely relax again!  Too funny!

To my fellow April girls, i know we've talked about this before.  I told my FI right when we started dating that I wanted a baby before I turned 30. (I turn 28 this fall)  In my perfect world, I would go off my pill around July/August and we'll just start trying from there. (I've had major baby itch for the past year and am dying for a little one) I know part of him wants to be newleyweds for a bit too (I think most guys do because they don't get that itch like us girls), but I keep casually mentioning it and part of me thinks he'll come around.  I'm not going to lie, I'm also worried that it might not be so easy to conceive.  I've been on the pill since I was 15 due to issues with bad cramps. I'm scared that being on it so long may affect my ability to conceive early on? I don't know.

Lifestyle/health-wise, I consider myself to be a pretty healthy person already.  My dr recommended I start taking folic acid a few years ago 'just incase' so i'm already doing that. (If you guys aren't taking it, you should be every day even if you're not trying yet!)  One of the main reasons that I started running last year was so that I had a healthy exercise hobby that wasn't just riding (if you don't know I own a horse and am a rider).  Once I'm a few months pregnant, for safety reasons, I'll most likely stop riding.  I want to be able to run still so that I'm still moving.  Running will also be an easy thing to get back into post-baby to start getting weight off. ;)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
