Hello Brides,

I am getting married on Nov 8th, 2014 @ 11am at Azul Fives.  I am expecting around 80+ guest (maybe close to 100).  I've selected the "Always and Forever" wedding package.  This package has minimal decorations and I am interested in adding my own touches.  I've read a few responses suggesting to bring your own decorations with setup fee of $250.  My biggest concern is traveling with the decorations and favors for guest.  I do have a wedding planner who will be traveling with me to the resort.  Should I have her bring these items?  I just don't want to be stressed out over this when traveling.

We are planning to do the private event/reception following the wedding.  I haven't yet decided the location as our wedding is taking place in the AM.  My fiance and I are just really excited about being able to have so many family and friends attend our wedding.  We both LOVE to party and would really like a fun filled reception.  I hoped to add my own decorations to this as well.  Does anyone have any opinions regarding the DJ?  The cost is like $1500-$2000.  Pretty steep for a DJ that I am not familiar with.  I did read somewhere that you are able to send them music (happy about that).  I've also heard from some past brides who used the DJ that they would have also been okay using the IPOD & Speaker setup.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi Everyone! I am considering having my wedding at Azul Beach in May 2015. Does anyone have info on the reception locations? It's the only thing I can't seem to find on their website.

    Thanks! Ashley

    Hi past Azul brides!

I need your advice. We are using two outside vendors so in order to avoid the outside vendor fee, we will be booking a room and putting their names on it. The problem is, this room will technically be empty since the vendors are Cancun locals. Is there anyway to give that room to a family member without adding their name to it or are we doomed to have it empty? Any advice is much appreciated!

    Thank you!!!

    Hello everyone.

I have been VERY interested in having a wedding at Azul beach ever since my fiancee and I started talking about engagement and marriage. However, the things that make me very nervous are the outside vendor fees as well as the difficulty everyone seems to have with the wedding coordinators. I have been going back and forth between Jamaica, Mexico (at Azul Beach, of course) and the Bahamas? Any suggestions from former and currently planning azul brides?

    Thanks everyone :)

      Hi there!

My wedding is 4 months out and yes, the vendor fees are ridiculous and I'm on my 4th wedding coordinator/designer. However, it seems that no matter what hotel you choose, there will always be something. The hotel itself is gorgeous and honestly, everyone I know that's done destination says the same thing: the planning is a nightmare, but once you're there, it's beautiful and the point it to have a good time, everything will work itself out.
I'm definitely disappointed about the lomas prices. I'm arguing right now about the gazebo linens, as paying $100 per linen (white only) is ridiculous!! It's $150 per linen in a color. They're making a ridiculous profit, it's crazy.

Thanks Malika. I think after searching different destinations, Mexico makes the most sense. Now it's between Azul Beach and El Dorado depending on if our immediate family prefers to bring their children or not. I did peruse the lomas prices and they do seem quite outrageous, especially when you can buy linen for way cheaper here!

        Hey All,

I just got married at Azul Beach on August 15th for 36 guests and overall, it was fantastic. I mean, if you're getting married here, you'll absolutely LOVE it. The attention and care of the wedding coordinators are unsurpassed. I'm far from a bridezilla but I'm a producer, so I know how to produce and event and they thought of everything I didn't even think of. They even suggest ways to save you money. The team is incredible. However, nothing is perfect. There are a few bumps you'll have to deal with and I'll get to that in a moment.

I booked via Destination Weddings, which was great because you get a lot of perks you normally wouldn't get if you book directly with Karisma. HOWEVER, Karisma also offers deals you may not get unless you book directly with them. Check with both and compare. However, be sure you have a great person to work with. Mine dropped the ball a few times and frustrated myself and my guests.

We got married on the Sky Deck which we loved. The beach isn't huge and we really felt like it was a separate event as opposed to it being in the same place we just sunbathed in earlier that day.

It's overpriced for what you get, (and PLEASE do not order a mojito as your signature drink. It was gross…) but still a lovely location.

As for decor, I got four sheers, two hanging corsages, rose petals on the aisle and 10 chair bows. I have no idea what it all looked like. When you're walking down the aisle, really, none of it matters.

We even got to choose out exit song, which was awesome.

Because of the rooms booked we qualified for unlimited events. I had a welcome cocktail party, a welcome dinner. Cocktail after the wedding, then dinner and the final night we had a bonfire smore's celebration on the beach that people are still talking about. We were having so much fun, other guests asked to join us.

Now the bad. The "concierge" they assign you gives you the overall run of the place, however they try to sell you REALLY HARD on joining the Prestige Travelers club. They will tell you it's better than a time share. They will really try to sell you on this. Tell them NO THANK YOU and please do not solicit my guests.

Also, they will refer you to your Lomas Travel advisor who will arrange your return trip to the airport. He will try to sell you on all the group tours which are run through the same company, Maroma Adventures.  I've been to Mexico quite a few times and they were the worst experience. It felt very "Disney" to us and during our jet ski excursion, two of them broke down. Do NOT do this.

OK, so the food. The Italian & Asian restaurants are excellent. Go early. There are no reservations but because of the popularity, there is a bit of a wait.

The beach butlers are amazing. Attentive, funny and super accommodating. If you tip them well in the beginning, you'll be your best friends.

The entire hotel has been renovated so it's pretty amazing. You get to pick out your own pillow for your room and your own Aromatherapy scent. Nice touch. Room service is 24hrs and included. You can order breakfast in bed the night before, so forgo paying for it.

We didn't get a wedding cake. We heard that it wasn't that great and the Asian restaurant made one for us while we dined there, so there really was no need. Nobody missed it.

My guests raved about the intimacy of the resort. It is a family resort but it didn't feel as if you were overrun with children. We think it has something to do with the size.

If you go through Destination Weddings you'll go through Lomas Travel and their team in Miami. Be patient. They take about a day to get back to you but they are very helpful. I had a great experience with Lynda Gomez.

As for the photography, we went with Lucidum Photography and the lead photographer Vincent. Yes we paid the outrageous $800 fee…but we both felt it was worth it.  We checked the International Society of Wedding Photographers first.  In order to join you must submit your work and be approved. As per their website…. "We screen and review every member before their application is accepted. When you hire an ISPWP photographer, you can be confident that they have years of experience, they have shot a LOT weddings in a wide variety of situations, and they subscribe to a professional code of conduct. They truly are the best in the world and each one of them has dedicated their professional lives to their craft. In short, we’ve done the searching and screening for you."

Vincent and his team were incredible. Visible when you needed them. Invisible when you didn't but always working.

I skyped with him ahead of time. I can't wait to see the photos!

Long story short, the wedding was perfect. You'll love Azul Beach. They do weddings right.
